Default June Pickups - 3rd List

I hope I'm not out of line starting a third list. List No. 2 takes a long time to download at this point.

Here is a true hobby rarity. A reasonably priced card from a buy-it-now inventory dump on ebay's bargain-listing day.

I guess that cabinet card is a bit rarer than a buy-it-now bargain on ebay.

Which Walsh would you keep? Backs are all HLC except Tinker which is a Sovereign

Edited to add in the Marquard and T202 since they only got a few hours'play on the prior string.

it is neither more nor less rare in that no other
examples of either cabinet are currently known
to exist. as far as your reference to a perceived
bargain on ebay, if you ever get the chance to see one
of the cabinets from this series in person, you may
change your opinion as to their value as the scans
do not adequately portray just how amazing several
of the collectors who have seen them in person
consider them to be.

rmacpa - maybe Im misreading your response to Paul, but it sounds like you believe he was knocking your cabinet. I dont think that is the case at all. I think he was saying that his card doesnt compare to yours. You may want to go back and read his post again.

A few more (from the BST, of course!)- the Marquard is a Tolstoi reverse.

One step closer to completion!

The "buy it now bargain" Paul refers to is his T207, not the cabinet ... he was complimenting the cabinet by noting that it more rare than his "buy it now bargain" T207. No other way to read it.

Pretty excited to get this one...

looks cool in person (much like the Cracker Jack W. Johnson I am looking for)

Soon to be in an SGC slab (if they slab these cards)...

It is a bit beat, but I was happy to get it for the price that I did considering a VG example sold a couple of weeks ago for $600+.

As beat as it is, I can't believe I scored this old Sox catcher for under $20. Too many red flags I reckon.

I wasn't going to post this, because I thought your collections are to private and highly valuable. The bride convinced me otherwise...

On a recent false alarm response to our local nursing home. I had met a nice elderly fella who was a severe baseball (Sox) fan. We got to talking some and he had seen some terrific games and HOF's at Fenway in his day. I then got the idea of putting on an albeit makeshift vintage and 70-80's card show. The Rec. Dir. placed the 'hour long" event on the bulletin board several weeks prior.

I recuited the missus to assist on setting up and she was needed to pass out some vintage inexpensive old cards for the residents to handle. Needless to say, the event was a huge success and went on longer than we had expected. At the end, I handed out 1931 W517 reprints to those in attendance, that another eBay seller was kind enough to donate (In spite of informing them that they were replicas, one man repeatedly asked, "How much is this Gehrig worth?")

Several of those that were "with it" and didn't doze- off had volunteered much info on teams and players long past. How they had met Bobby Doerr and Dom DiMag saw the great Joe D and Ted Williams battle it out. The excitement was palpable. I highly recommend it, if not for anything else, for the laughs.

So, if you can find an hour or two, please consider this visit. It really was fun and I got a free Coke!

Just got them back from SGC. Don't mind in the least whether they are labeled correctly or not. Thinking of collecting these "mis-label type" of cards.

Jim,

Is there paper loss on the back, can you post scans?

Yes, SCG seems to be very tough when it come to there grading!

SGC gets all my grading submissions. Would tell you I wished they graded better but we all say that. I do know when I get a good grade from them, it is something special. I do like and buy from PSA and GAI also though, and like them both. Doesn't appear to be paper loss; just not factory issued white anymore.

The Yeakley's are a class act. Rhys sent me a 1940 Playball Buddy Lewis to help me out with my vintage "through the mail" autograph collection. Rhett sent me a 1910 Colgan's Chips Seymour for my Baltimore collection. They did this without asking, and are both an asset to the board. Happy to report that Mr. Lewis is well at age 89, and signed my 1940 Playball!
