Unusual 1969 T Mantle....anyone else seen one ?

I picked up this 1969 Topps Mantle in a hobby store 20 years ago. It instantly caught my attention, as I had
never seen one with this Blue background color.....and, have never seen one since.

Has any Net54 member ever seen this card with other color than its normal Gray background ?

I've both the '69 Topps Mantle and the white-letter error card, I've never seen the card with a deep blue background.

I have 3 of the 69 Mantles, 2 whites and a regular, but have never seen one like this. I have been a long time collector of Topps variations/printing erors for my sets, and have not heard mention of a coloration difference on this card before.

The blue background on your Mantle looks similar to the background that can be found on the '69 Topps Jackson but is slightly different. Are you sure the card you have isn't a reprint or counterfeit?

D.C., when I see a card like that I wonder what the heck PSA is picking at, grade-wise, to keep it from a 9. I know 8-s gotta be darn near perfect anyway, but the only thing I see is maybe centering not being "exactly" precise. But c'mon, Geeeez! The back?

In the past (meaning about 25-30 years ago), I remember having cards from 1969 out a vending box that had deeper blue backgrounds. Tom Seaver specifically comes to mind. The cards are long, long gone, so I have nothing to post other than my recollection.

Now, tell me, what is a back scan of this card going to tell us ? Trust me it's a real 1969 Topps card....or, because it isn't graded,
is that why you are skeptical ? Didn't we just go through a Thread on a "re-backed" card that was graded ?

Anyhow, I've better things to do tonite then produce a back scan on this card. And, tomorrow I'll be all day at the US Tennis Open
in NY.

I will reiterate (in case you didn't bother to read my initial post)....I acquired this card back in the '80s, the original owner of this card
was selling it in his hobby store....where I went to buy a model plane for my Grandson.

You know Peter, at times you are insufferable.....I posted this card to see how unusual this color may be. And, all you can add are your
suspicions of it being "counterfeit" ? ? Next time THINK about what you are going to post before you post.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, if you say that the back of the card is what is normally on a '69 Mantle, that's good enough for me, no scan necessary.

I'm sorry if I was a little "snippy" at you in my prior post....but, I am tired of some of the "trimmed....
fake....counterfeit, etc., etc." responses I get, everytime I post one of my UNGRADED cards (or my
autographed items). There is another world out there besides the "plastic world" in this hobby.

I vote for color shift on press. I always thought the color was terrible on '69's- the blue skies often look gray. This one has a decided blue shift, I suspect they were tweeking the color at the beginning of the run.
