Default Have to ask....

congratulations on the run! I see you have included the team cards, Aaron is on a number of the "leaders" Cards - not sure about other Braves - Any reason you left them out? Also the 1967's?, 1970's and years forward?

Good questions. I should have been more specific. My run is dedicated entirely on base cards, so league leaders and other such cards aren't included in that run. The reason I got the team cards was because it's a way of highlighting the players that didn't get their own base card.

As for the '67 set, I don't consider that a true Topps set. There's a lot of back and forth about whether Topps issued those cards, and IMO I don't believe that they did. They look nothing like any of the other VZ cards they released, and quite frankly, they look like pure knock-offs. The same can be said for any sets released in the '70's. I'm not completely sold on the idea that Topps released them, because they look radically different from the US versions. The '72s look similar, but those are stamps and not cards.

If more information comes to light about them being produced by Topps then I'll collect them, but until then I'll wait.

Awesome run! I'd been waiting for you to post it, so thanks! 2 years is lightning quick to complete this!!

As ive told you before, I agree with you about the 67's.

Thought you might be interested to know that my 68 Venz torre, which I showed raw in that other thread, just came back in the mail today as a PSA 2. I also have a 68 Mathews at PSA right now, as well as a 64 NL HR Leaders featuring the Hammer and 3 other HOFers.

Congrats again on an awesome accomplishment!

That's great Ryan - I wish I could have helped as I only have Topps and only Atlanta cards....no OPC either.

FYI- In your 'signature', I'm sure you meant to say '1961' not '1951'.

I have never purchased a Venezuelan card as I have been concerned with both the apparently much thinner card stock and the resulting conditions. That doesn't give you pause?

Actually, I do mean 1951 as that was the first year Topps released baseball cards, the Red and Blue backs. My ultimate goal is to collect every Topps base card of Braves players ever made, starting from 1951 to today, and including Venezuelans, OPCs, and I even bought some minis that Topps distributed in England back in the late 80s.

As with most collectors, I have gone away from that goal to collect other items, so if I had just focused on the cards, I'm fairly confident I'd be far into the 50's.

Now that I think about it, I'm glad you brought up my sig because I completed the '67 set and I'm just the Aaron short of completing the '66 and
'65 set. My goal this year is to complete the 60's and begin the harder, and more expensive, road of completing the 50's next year.

As it stands, all I have left to get are...

1960 Topps
300 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves
420 Ed Mathews -- Milwaukee Braves
445 Warren Spahn -- Milwaukee Braves

1961 Topps
415 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves
524 Johnny Logan -- Milwaukee Braves

1962 Topps
218 Joe Torre -- Milwaukee Braves
320 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves

1963 Topps
126 Bob Uecker -- Milwaukee Braves
320 Warren Spahn -- Milwaukee Braves
390 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves

1964 Topps
300 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves
541 Braves Rookies -- Niekro, Roof -- Milwaukee Braves

1965 Topps
170 Hank Aaron -- Milwaukee Braves

And typically, I'm not looking at Mint or even Nr-Mt. Ya, it would be nice to get those and if I can get them at the right price I'll snatch them up, but typically I go after centered cards that would grade around a PSA 5 or 6. No creases, no paper loss, no rounded corners, nothing like that. Just a nice card that presents nicely.

I would love to see them! Maybe you posted the Torre and I forgot? Either way, I'd love to see it again! There's something quite amazing when you can see a VZ in great condition because there's no earthly reason why they should considering the card stock and Venezuelans typically gluing their cards into scrapbooks.

Where do you stand on the 70's VZs? I always felt they were knock-offs as well.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but since you asked, here are my Venezuelan Braves cards (so far):
