Default Card Grades & Their Appearences

Posted By: Little Lee

Hi All,

I noticed that a lot of you Gents are building you sets with Mid to Low grade cards.

My question is, what do you look for in appearance of the card in these grades, both on the front and on the back of the card.

Thanks, Little Lee

Default Card Grades & Their Appearences

I tend to buy most prewar cards in the 3-5 range. I generally look for a pleasing image, good centering, preferably no creases (or very small ones), and decent corners (though they will be somewhat rounded in a 3/4). Ive posted some recent t206's that Ive purchased (the Young was just won yesterday so the scan is from the listing). With newer cards (ie 50's and 60's) I look for 5-7 range and I will trade off centering for better corners - as in the Aaron. You can find some very good looking cards in this range. :
