Default Hall of Fame All-Star Roster

I have heard it suggested that the Hall of Fame should include only 9 players, one for each position, and that no new members should be allowed in unless they are good enough to justify kicking out a previous member. I disagree with the premise (though I think most of us would agree there are at least a few too many in Cooperstown), but I was wondering which players everyone would choose for the Hall if there could only be one per position. Opinions, anyone?

Ruth in the outfield or on the mound? I should point out you don't get a DH, so the batting ability of your pitcher should be factored into your decision, at least somewhat.

and I discovered that the only men who had won the MVP two years in a row--made a baseball team. There were exactly 9 of them. Just thought I'd mention it. Of course, this doesn't take into account all those who played before the MVP, won twice in a row AFTER 1989, and mistakes made by the MVP voters, either.

I believe the 2nd baseman was Morgan, and the pitcher was Newhauser. You can look up the rest...I can't remember them!
Atthetime, I thought it was pretty exciting, though.

I think Bonds is one real good season,or 2 average seasons away from replacing Mays in my outfield but all the other guys are safe for awhile. If i were picking an all-time team for say fantasy baseball or a video game etc,i would take Fisk over Bench because hes my all-time favorite player

Julie's encycolpedia was from 1989, before Frank Thomas had played a full season and before Bonds won his first MVP. Otherwise, Jay has Julie's roster correct. 1B was Foxx and the other outfielder was Maris in 1960-1961.

DArren, come on. A-Rod at 3B? He's played there one year. That's about as silly as putting Killebrew at 2B. Yes he played there, but only one year. A-Rod has a long way to go to prove that he's the best at 3B ever. It's kind of like claiming Biggio and Dale Murphy are great catchers. Yes, they played there, but no one would ever consider ranking them all-time great catchers.

Jay i think Jimmy Foxx would be the greatest catcher under those rules. The Arod choice by Darren had to be either a joke,or combining his shortstop stats plus what Darren thinks he might do in the future.Almost any guy that plays now would be a better choice at 3rdbase if you go by what Arod has actually done there
