I'd post a card of Willie, but every one I own is already posted ... so I'll offer a recollection: When I was nine, I discovered baseball. One of the first games I watched was on TV and one of the first memorable defensive plays I ever saw involved Willie. He was 39 at the time. The Reds' Bobby Tolan hit a ball deep right-center. Both Willie and rightfielder Bobby Bonds went after the ball. In mid-air and up against the fence, the two players collided. Willie was knocked out, but he held the ball ... |
