Keith Olbermann wrote a fine article on the set for VCBC. Probably 10 years ago or so.

I do not think that anyone is going to have any info regarding the set's production numbers.

Default Out of the Beckett Almanac 2008

1895 Mayo's Cut Plug N300-
The Mayo Tobacco Works of Richmond,Va.,issued this set of 48 ballplayers about 1895.Some recent speculation has been made that this set was issued beginning in 1894.The cards contain sepia portraits although some pictures appear to be black and white. There are 40 different individuals known in the set;cards 1 to 28 appear in uniform, while the last twelve (29-40)appear in street clothes.Eight of the former also appear with variations in uniform. The player's name appears within the picture area and"Mayo's Cut Plug" ad is printed in a panel at the base of the card.Similar to the football set issued around the same time, the cards have black blank backs.

Default Wrong team in the Beckett checklist

In the Beckett checklist, Joyce is shown with Brooklyn, while the card image shows him with Washington.

One of four which I own, all obtained about 6-7 years ago when a friend was renovating a house and ripped out a ceiling, and found a whole bunch of junk but also four Mayo's.

They graded out as two SGC 40's and two SGC 10's.

That's been about it as far as "finds" go for me...
