Since there seems to be some confusion about my connection with SCD, let me clarify.

In May, 2006, I left the employ of F+W Publications, the owner of SCD. For a number of years prior to that, though I was employed at F+W, it was solely in the capacity of editor of the Stadard Catalog of Baseball Cards. To facilitate that role, I maintained an irregular column "SCD Update" in SCD, as well as an even more infrequent column "The Bleacher Bum," which was essentially a blog in the days before there were blogs. The roles of editor and publisher of SCD were held by a succession of other people since the late 1980s.

In Oct., 2009, I contracted with F+W to be a part-time (very part-time) contributor to the SCBC, maintain the vintage sections of the book. I also maintain the title of a consignment director with F+W's auction arm, Collect.com Auctions. To facilitate my role with the SCBC, I authorized SCD editor T.S. O'Connell to pick up any material he wanted from my blog (linked below) and reprint it in SCD.

I have no operating role in SCD, nor in any business aspects of the SCBC or any other F+W property.

Information about problems with SCD advertisers should be directed to current publisher Tom Bartsch at tom.bartsch@fwmedia.com.

FWIW, I remember the name Carl Meyer quite well. When I was publisher in the 1980s, I threw him out of SCD for crooked operations and co-operated in what I vaguely recall was a successful prosecution of some sort in his home state of Maryland that resulted in a slapped wrist. If he's back under an assumed name, I'm sure the publisher would welcome your information.

Bob, you wrote: "I have no operating role in SCD, nor in any business aspects of the SCBC or any other F+W property. "

That's what drives me crazy about SCD and why I no longer subscribe to SCD.

I own a business and employee about 50 people. In my organizaton, my employees and I are advicates for our indsutry and our cliients. That means if any issues come up, any of our employees can speak to anyone else in the organization to improve our product or our client's experiences working with us.

I have batted with people at SCD for years about Coaches corner and was told over and over by them that "It's not my call or responsibility" when I suggested that SCD remove coaches corner as an advertiser and/or to warn the hobby about cc.

Well Bob, what would be wrong if you contacted people who run or publish or edit SCD and ask them to get involved?

SCD has the wrong culture when it comes to being proactive and they have paid a dear price for this "let's bury our head in the sand" stance.
