Default 1922 st. Louis browns uniform

I hope someone can give me some information about a St. Louis Browns uniform with hat I recently acquired(see pictures below). It has the name Severeid embroidered on the jersey and pants(pants also has 1922). I have the original Rawlings box and it has writing on the top that reads "Got this uniform about 1960 from Cardinals(Mr Busch) after All-Star game in St. Louis". The box also has Mr. Severeid's address in San Antonio hand written on it. I found an old panoramic photo of the team in uniform and everything seems to match the one that I have.

My question- is this a vintage uniform from 1922 or one that was made on or around 1960. Do the labels look original? It looks to be legitimate to me although I do not think it was ever worn in a game. Any input would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
Lou

Hi Lou...

The Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannels are definitely more circa 1960. I've owned a few Dodgers Flannels with this same tagging... Including a Joe Pignatano jersey from 1960.

Perhaps this was a gift, a commemorative uniform, or made for an Old Timers Day event. It still has nice value, and is quite collectible. If you can post pics of the inner cap tagging, that could potentially answer a few more questions.

Hope this helps!

Game worn experts will chime in as I only have a limited game worn base to go from, but this appears to be something made in the 1960's era replicating a 1922 Browns full uniform. I believe this hall of fame tagging was done right around 1960. I have included a Hunt auction link for a 1960 Mazeroski with the same tagging. Good luck with it. Jason

Wow- that's the exact one - but without the socks and belt. Mystery solved. Thanks so much for your help.

Default 1958 St. Louis Reunion Uniform

This uniform is from an August 19th, 1958 St. Louis Old Timers game. The event featured players from both the Cardinals and the Browns. The Browns players included Ken Williams, Hank Severied, and Dick Sisler. Dizzy Dean took part in the event sporting a size 50 jersey and size 48 pants. The Rawlings Sporting Good Company who supplied the uniforms, said they made use of old Sporting News photographs in order to produce the outfits.

A pretty detailed account of the event with additional uniform information can be found in the 27 August 1958 edition of The Sporting News; page 5.

Boy- you guys are good.

Thanks so much for all your help. I don't know much about uniforms, but I'm getting an education. I was hoping it was an earlier uniform- but I kind of figured it wasn't from 1922 based on the label and box.

Default 1950s Rawlings Products

That style of Rawlings tag is associated with the fabric by the same name. The 1952 Rawlings Roundup; Issue #4 has a great article on this lighter fabric (5.71 oz per yard) that is made from 45% wool and 55% Dacron. Had this uniform fabric been period to 1922 it would have been all wool 8oz fabric.
