Default Topps Detroit Tiger run 1952+

I recently finished my run of all Detroit Tiger Topps cards from 1952-1968 (sets completed past that year). Only includes cards that only have Tigers on them.

Team cards are graded.

Default Tigers

Neat project Brent. What was most expensive Tiger card pre 1968 ? What was toughest to find ? Did you look at all for Tigers in the backgrounf of a card, like the 56s ?

Most expensive is the Kaline RC.
Toughest in hi grade is 56 & 60 team cards. The 52, 61, 66, 67 high #'s aren't tough, just $$$$. The 2 hi# 1952s were painful to buy too.

Last card I acquired was 1966 Orlando McFarlane hi#. I actually sold one last year because I thought I had 2.

I only focused on cards that had only Tigers. I will continue to add by getting the 62 & 63 rookie cards, a couple AL multiple player cards, and 51 blue backs.

Thanks to the jerks on this site I am now pursuing all the Tiger T206 and 1933 Goudey cards.

Did you include the 53 Topps Johnny Groth? Kinda cool, and when in nice shape a beautiful card. The toughest and most expensive card would have to be the 52 "yellow" House!

Default House variant

Not sure he would need the other House for his project. I see people asking a lot for it, but are they getting that much ?

I really don't know what a yellow house is actually worth "on the market".
Also, Al, Isn't here a 52tigger or two as a "canadian" gray back? Those can be pricey.

Default Gray Backs

The 52 "Canadian" greys run from 131 to 190, so would include House. Do not recall another Tiger in there. Also do not know if the yellow tiger can be found in grey back. It would be like finding a Campos black star that also had the missing front border section . The gray backs have been going for as much if not more than the high number cards

.....Wow, a gray back yellow house would be something! Those graybacks are sooo tough....Billy the kid would be a good one to have.

Yeah! Nice run, think about branching into bowmans and regional, and dare I say pre war.

I've thought about Bowman, but I'm not going to pursue regional issues (too pricey and I don't like them). Already working prewar. 2 shy of completing T206 and I'm halfway to 1933 Goudey.

Default Regionals

Brent,

I normally don't collect regionals either, as I am mainly a set collector, but the '53 Glendale Meats is a Tiger collector "must have" IMO. The set is pricey - but only 28 cards - and includes the T206 Wagner of regional issues in Art Houtteman's card.

Houtteman led an interesting life. Worthy of looking up.

Default Houtteman

Zach--as an interesting aside on Houtteman ( at least to me), see the thread on page 2 here on 1959 Variation

Zach, that's the set I do not want to get. I have other pursuits that are killing my card budget.

Default 1952 Topps Tiger Run

Brent,

Understood. It can be a pricey set.

Al-R - did not know about that variation. My checklists are the common type. I wouldn't be surprised since he was released by Baltimore right before opening day of the 1958 season...and then as Ben N says drifted around in the minors. Plausible.

Hey Bob. There is a variant ( recurring print defect) to that card too . It was listed in the Topps Super set that sold recently. On the back it can be found with the Topps on the bottom touching the border or with some space and a slash through the PP in Topps. I found one after that listing and will post when I get a chance
