Default 1969 stamps 12 stamp panels that don't match the checklists

Hello I have what looks like a set of 240 topps Stamps in 12 stamp panels but the are not like any of the panels on ebay. They run Two stamps top to bottom vs all the ones on ebay run side to side. Some pictures below. So looks like a set with no dupes but every panel is a variation.. anybody else have panels like This?
Thanks Jonathan

I have a Mantle panel that runs top to bottom like that. I thought all 1969s were top to bottom?

Every panel I saw on ebay did not and checklist in standard catalog did not match any of the 20 panels I have.

Default Stamps

Top to bottom is the way they were issued in packs
Sideways were hand separated

Larry I looked on ebay and the panels were perforated differently. And those matched the checklist in the Standard Catalog. Which has more than 20 panels listed. Are the sideways panels more scarce?

the sideway are more common
the book mistakenly list them and psa mistakenly grades them and counts them in the registry...while only marking authentic on the up and down panels
probably take 10 years but eventually psa will listen to the people who know
the up and down are not perforated on the sides
if you find an unopened pack u will see the up and down is inside

If the vertical strips were the only ones distributed in packs, where did the horizontal strips come from and how were they distributed?

Thanks for starting this thread, as I've also had this conversation with PSA regarding the 1969 TOPPS STAMPS PANELS MLB PLAYERS 12 STAMP PANEL (#8) that is required in the Mays Master Set. I have the 12 player vertical with Mays, and that was graded authentic as someone mentioned earlier.

No, PSA will provide a numerical grade on the vertical panels. I have a PSA 8 for the 1969 vertical panel with Bench, Clemente, and Banks. The reason some panels only get an authentic grade is when the panel does not have a white border. The 1974 stamp panels are the worst for this as most all of them are missing at least one of the borders. Horrible cuts.

I have 23 different horizontal panels and yes they all match the SCD checklist.
I have 18 different vertical panels but have never seen a checklist for them so not sure how many different ones there are.
Anyone how many different verticals there are?
Rick

Default 2 different methods of distribution

My understanding is the vertical panels 2 across by 6 down were released as a separate issue in their own packs. The horizontal panels 6 across by 2 down were issued as an insert in packs of 1969 topps cards (not sure which series)

There were no stamps inserted in Topps packs. They were a stand alone issue. The deckle edge cards and decals were the only inserts in packs.

If it is correct that the 1969 Topps stamp sheets were only available from the stand alone packs that only contained vertical sheets, where did the more common horizontal stamp sheets come from?

I have gone over the 20 sheets I have and they look like a complete set. As a checklist these are the 20 sheets with the upper left player identified. Anybody have any other vertical strips beside these?

On your 20 sheets, is there one stamp of Bernie Allen or are there two? The reason I ask is that there is a variation on his stamp, some have Wash Senators printed on them while others have Wash Senator, missing the S at the end of Senators. I would put up scans of each but I'm not near a computer at the moment.

Here are the two different versions of the 1969 Topps Stamp Bernie Allen, one is missing the S at the end of Senators.

Out the back door dose not make sense. The stamps were perforated differently. That they were issued two separate ways might make sense. Especially since we know more than one printing. But top to bottom 20 strips for set and horizontal you need 24 but get multiple stars.. I know a lot of 74 stamps came out back door but they were same as packs.

Default 1969 Topps Stamps

Finally had a chance to look at my set. I have all the Albums and all 240 individual stamps. Most are on 12 stamp horizontal strips which coincide with those listed in the SCD Standard Catalog.

Cliff---my two versions of the Allen appear on strips 12 and 23 as listed in the SCD Catalog. It lists them as variations

I did have to finish out the set with some individual stamps and panels since I could not locate all 24 12 stamp strips when I was putting set together, and never got back into it. I have no vertical strips

I guess I need to get the latest issue of the SCD catalog so I can keep up with which variations are now listed and which ones are not .
