Default Joey votto .400 since all star break

One of the least talked about players in baseball who is have one of the greatest second half seasons since ichiro .426 a few seasons back is joey votto. If votto could put it all together for a whole season he could be the type of player who could hit for .400 and that would be spectacular for baseball expecially for the red legs.

He was talking about quitting earlier in the year (about 50 games in) if he didnt turn things around i believe

ah a quick good search..

Its more important to play super well in the the first half so the team gets momentum and maybe make trades at the deadline than do super well in the 2nd half when you team is out of it..

hitting 400 for an entire season is damn hard tho, especially on a bad team because he will get walked so much cutting his AB's down. I gotta say tho, if I had to pick one guy to do it, it would be Votto. He makes good contact and doesn't hack away.

as far as "second half seasons" if you only look at avg sure, but Ichiro never had any season with the bat as good as most of Votto's. Power and OBP really really matter a lot!

i agree Vottos numbers all together destroy Ichiro..but again 2nd half for a veteran perennial ALL STAR hitter who is not past his prime is easier than the first half...you get to face a bunch of call ups and teams that dont care if they win in September which is about 30 of those 80 or so AFTER all star break games..

Plus the reds were already out of it....sort of like a quarterback getting 2 tds in the 4th quarter to lose a game 35-14 and the 2nd half stats were great for the game...

Its the first half of the season before the all star break when almost all of the games matter and decides the fate of the season which matters the most for the most part

maybe in september, but with the 2 wild cards, most teams are "in it" until then. Plus, facing callups isn't always easy as you have never seen them before. No, what matters is your production for the season.

Right in not all circumstances but i think you can agree that the Reds werent in it even for the wild cards this year for the entire 2nd half of the year..

facing callup non studs isnt ALWAYS easy as you have not seen them before but its still better than facing pitchers that have MLB season long talent, there are always exceptions but you can even see in Vegas that the totals on baseball games are always higher for the games that dont matter like Reds/brewers games in September versus the games in the first half of the year

..the odds show there are just more runs that are going to be scored in those games in the 2nd half of the year versus the first half which would be the reason for those adjusted odds..

Votto has been terrific though in the 2nd half...

betting odds aren't about who is better they are about evening out the betting so they can make $$$. The fact is that more opponents of even bad teams are in contention than ever before making more games meaningful in Sep than ever before. Sure the Reds were lousy, but Votto didn't have much of anyone on the team after the trade deadline and actually hit better!
