Default New Christe's Auction 8/16-24

Cool stuff as you'd expect.

http://www.christies.com/features/Ba...rs-8471-1.aspx

Interestingly, a lot of the photos are being sold in groups. Here's a group of 4 Ruths, here's a group of 4 Gehrigs, etc.

Selling only 56 cards but all Cracker Jacks and all seem high grade.

Default Wow

Incredible items throughout... I think some of the estimates are insanely low, but if I could pick up some of these lots at the estimates, I'd jump on them!!! Will be interesting to see what actually happens at the sale(s)....

Thoughts looking through:

1) Unless I am overlooking something, this is not nearly as impressive as last year's auction. Of course, that does not mean there aren't some incredible pieces there

2) It seems like the estimates are a joke? For some of the items that I have an idea of reasonable value, it looked like the high estimate was maybe 25%-50% of what I think they will actually go for. (Interestingly, I don't recall this being the case last year).

3) Like last season there seems to be an emphasis on game-used bats and pictures. I wonder if the consigners for those items are the same as for last year's auction.

I thought last year's auction items all came from one consignor, no?

Yes, they did. I think that this is the remnants of his collection that did not make it into the first auction. Pretty nice remnants, huh?

I do not think that there will be a catalog. Online only.

Ah.....here is the rat who outed the auction, Steve!

Unless you were a consignor you might not want to out auctions, however to each their own.

And..................... I personally would never have saw it had you not started the thread, and run people up on several items, while winning only 1.

So while you are a rat, I owe ya one.

And I didn't win anything.

Love how no one was bidding in the auction a few days ago. Now everyone has won something.

I have no problem outing public auctions. For everyone pissed
off that there is competition, someone thanks me for pointing it out. I can live with that.

I think people had forgot about this one until RamRam started this one! http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=243996

I had just put in a couple bids and then logged in to see it. I thought oh shit there goes the neighborhood! lol

While not advertised in as many "mainstream" places as other auctions, I don't think anyone can be upset about you (or anyone) mentioning an auction from possibly the biggest auction house in the world.
