This ia a 1955 Spic/Span paper dry cleaning bag. It has 18 players an is 24X36 inches. This is the first one I have ever seen...I do not think there are many of these around...

Pictured here, together with a d311 Holland from my collection, is a Pacific Coast Biscuit Company store display tin that I just picked up thanks to Mark's sharp eye.

While the Trade Mark in the center appears at first glance to be a swastika it is in fact a Native American symbol for "Good Luck". This dates to the early 1900's well before the notorious Nazi regime in Germany. I have confirmed this with both a granddaughter of the founder of the Company and with a renowned past poster on this board.

Hopefully no one will find this post offensive.

thats a cool box. the "nazi symbol" on the front actaully meant "good luck" before the nazis used it. today ppl will think the germans got lol. very nice box though

this is a page from a old bb guide (1910 ? )i got for the pic of Frank Arellanes boston redsox pitcher, not sure if it is reach or spalding. but notice the similar symbol. creepy looking sometimes.

I have a small snuff or matchbox from the 1880's with that symbol on it. When I first bought the box, when I was like 11, I thought it was a German piece. However, when I showed it to an antiques dealer, they said it was older and that the Germans took the Good Luck symbol and turned it like 60 or 90 degrees to make the Swastika.

So, there shouldn't be anything offensive about a Good Luck sign...unless, of course, you start finding great old baseball cards

The swastika has the meaning of "good fortune" or "well-being". Many many items can have a swastika present that are completly unrelated to nazism as it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Odinism.

The Spic and Span bag is great. I grew up in Wisconsin listening to the Milwaukee Braves on the radio. I haven't seen a Spic and Span bag before. Nice pickup!

Nothing special, but I have always loved this card. Vibrant colors, great action stance...a real beauty at a great price!

Notch on the left border and a light crease are the reasons for the grade.

I agree that is a beautiful "1" and also one of my favorite T206s. I think they may have graded it so harshly because he looks like he has had a portion of his appendix removed (left border). In any event, beautiful card.

Hitler misappropriated a number of terms and ideas from Sanskrit. Svastika is actually a Sanskrit term that usually refers to brotherly love or brotherhood. It is used as an auspicious symbol in several Indian religions including Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. No uses in India have anything to do with racial ideology. Aryans were the race of people who migrated into/invaded South Asia around 1500BCE and brough with them the Sanskrit language. Aryans are actually Persians (modern day Iran) and I doubt Hitler would have wanted to associate himself with them if he had known. In Buddhist Sanskrit, the term "arya" means "superior one" but it refers to somebody who has cultivated insight into the nature of reality. They are superior in terms of their wisdom, not their race.

I have found the easiest way is to go to Photobucket.com (free site) and upload your pictures there. Then click on the link there to generate html and copy and paste it on to your post here and viola! the picture will appear.

Regarding Steve M's post of the Pacific Biscuit Company display, the "swastika" symbol was used on food packaging in China to denote a vegetarian item that was safe for strict Buddhists to consume. Sort of the Buddhist version of Kosher. Probably a good bet that Pacific Biscuit was owned by Chinese.

Brett, one of these days I'll get a web page like others here and post them. It's been fun but causes a lot of hair pulling trying to get specific colors and seeing the card finally offered on ebay but with a background color you already have
As far as the swastika issue, living in Western Arkansas a stone's throw from Oklahoma (formerly the old Indian territory before statehood), these signs have popped up several times on old buildings, etc. When renovation hit our downtown, the original facade of an old building displayed several swastikas and people lost their mind at first, thinking the new owners were displaying Nazi sentiments! I believe the local Indian tribes used the symbol for "good luck" and it was displayed therein.
