I just grabbed this one to offset the shipping cost of another card I purchased from the same seller, and I thought the price was too good to pass up.

Nice; I assume Corbett and Donovan are the missing two?

As for me, more stuff:

Ticked all the boxes for me:

--Los Angeles area arena
--Two HOFers fighting for a title
--Nice graphics.

Larry,if you ever get an extra #104 that you may want to part with PLMK.I have some extras that you could maybe use one for your set. I am not looking for anything special as far as condition goes.Something VG will be just fine as long as there is no paper lose.

Just started dipping my toes into the boxing part of the hobby. I remember my dad showing me his exhibit boxing and wrestling cards when I was a kid. No idea where they went but they were from his youth. He is gone now but I remember how he liked them so wanted to get something that reminded me of him.

Not sure if this is as cool as I find it.

Not rare or expensive (this copy was $29.16 net), but one of my favorite old boxing cards, as it features the Burns-Johnson fight in 1906. Burns remains one of my favorite old timers and, I think, an underrated boxer. He weighed in at 168 pounds for his fight against Johnson. Burns was only 5'7, but defended his title successfully 11 times in less than 3 years, one of the most active champions of all time. Johnson was about 6'1, weighed in at 192 for this fight (and was usually heavier during his title reign). Johnson won of course, taking the crown after the police stopped the fight in the 14th round, claiming a points victory by referee decision. Burns "was beaten, but he was game" as Johnson said. Burns was the first to defend his title around the world.

Need 6 cards to complete the black back E79 set now, and 12 of the tough red back cards.

You need to finish your Tolstoi run so I can actually win some again . Very nice pickup, and interesting to see the price disparity on the 3 Tolstoi's this seller had. The Stone multiple set collectors needed closed a lot higher than the Northridge most have. 17 of them is no easy feat!

I was about 5 seconds too late on the 3 BIN's, that seller could have got far more if he knew what he had. He priced them the same as his Mecca and Hassan cards

Default T218 Tolstoi

Thanks, G, like my paternal grandmother told me, "no good deed goes unpunished." When you explained to me that T218 Tolstoi had 50 cards, and provided a checklist, I went all-in, thinking I'm going to complete it. I promise not to hoard, and trade all my dupes..Rob 18/50

Ha, well I was still pretty pleased with the final price. And since you literally wrote the book on boxing cards I'll just take it as an affirmation of my taste?

Ok. Lampos are just popular and expensive. I was hoping to steal a deal.

I love this card, I have been acquiring them slowly for some time and intend on acquiring more as opportunity presents itself. What was the price of these at the time you purchased?

edit to note, "slowly for some time" was six months ago when I learned of it's existence

Default Latest Pickups

The other day I was going thru a stack of n150 actors and actresses. This card was in the stack. I’ve had it for years. Until recently I assumed it was an actor. I’ve even tried to sell it at flea markets for $10.

Not necessarily a new pickup but a new realization.

I guess I need to go to more flea markets! If you want to double your original asking price, I'd go up to $20!

Big thank you to one of the members here for sending me these! Mostly a boxing set, so I think these are close enough to go here. Usually I think SGC overgrades my boxing pickups, but I'm not sure why the Leary is a 2. Davidson is a good looking 2, McWood a lower end 2, but Leary looks like a 3-3.5 to me.

I know the Davidson is a bit more popular, it's a weird looking picture which puts it up my alley. Goes with my T218 Jordan's as the totality of my roller skater collection.

Brings me to 13 of the 40 T224/T229 fronts, ~7-8 months into the project. Coming faster than I expected, probably won't ever finish but it's a fun and rare set and I'll enjoy however many I end up with to display. I don't want to know what Jack Johnson will cost me...

Fun pick up. 1915 RPPC Johnson v Willard in Cuba, really like the narrative on the back.

"Beginning of the 2nd round Johnson v Willard Havana Cuba 4/15/15 won by Willard in 26th round"
