I am going to take shot here and say that neither one of the balls are authentic. They both look like they came from B and J. The Mantle has the shake and the Joe D is straight up and down.

Don, why do think they might be good? They are awful. Slowly drawn, lack of spontaneity.

What other experts do you want to opine on those two autographs, Don?

Default Mantle and Dimaggio Auto Baseballs

Well as I stated in my first post---I am not sure if the baseballs are good---the first 2 responces stated the baseballs were good---I would really like to see what Richard Simon states----I feel he is one of the best Auto specialists around----Again I am not postive on the baseballs---I was looking for a resounding yes or no---Right now I have 2 for and 2 against---so I would like a few more responces---thanks for the help both good and bad---if I get more bad---I will agree thanks, Don

NO! NO! NO! NO! Is that resounding enough. I know that Richard is out of town. Who else out there would like to have a say yes or no?

Don,

I could be wrong, but I believe that both Chris and Shelly also have a lot of experience with autographs. Hope this helps.

Don, I consider Chris, as do many, a Mantle expert and if he says it's bad I'd believe him. I have several Mantle and Dimaggio auto's but still do not consider myself an expert by any means, however, the Mantle M's and the Dimaggio D and I kinda give these away.

Mike, thank you for the nice comment, but I would never call myself an expert. I have, over the years, taken the time to learn more and more about certain signatures.

Shelly, should also be included as very, very knowledgeable about Mantle, DiMaggio, Williams, and many other autographs.

Don,

I would trust Shelly on this, as he is one of the experts that you are looking for. If you must have Richard's opinion, you should go to his website and request authentication and he will email you back (like he did yesterday to me) that he is on vacation and can authenticate your item when he returns.

Wow, what a score! $150 each. Dave I know you will grab these in a second. I would assume that this is a done deal no returns or refunds because you know that they are authentic.

I'm confused...So did Don set this whole thing up for someone to say they were authentic just to sell them...I thought he was planning to purchase and wanted to know if they were good...now it sounds like he has them and is looking to sell....

Yanks, Dave said there real so why would he not buy them at great price? The seller has his doubts, that is why they are so cheap. He asked what people thought some said yes and some said no. He is being more than fair.If Dave is so sure what is the problem?

Dave, if you're absolutely certain those autographs are real, at $150.00 each, that's one helluva bargain.

Don, just make sure it is a "As Is, No Returns, No Refund" deal.

James, he was asking if they where real so they could be sold. He has buyer who thinks they are authentic and wants to sell them to him. I see no problem in that. It was not a set up.

I don't see anything shady about this. Don came on here to get opinions on his Mantle and DiMaggio autographed baseballs. Dave commented "Both good."

Dave also commented "I would have no problem buying or selling either one of those balls. Been dealing in autographs for 20 years."

Don took him up on his comment and offered to sell them to Dave for $150.00 a piece.

Now let's see if Dave accepts Don's offer of $150.00 a piece. Dave did comment "Both good." $150.00 for a Mickey Mantle inscribed (NO 7) autographed baseball!!!! That's a great deal for an authentic Mickey Mantle autographed baseball with that inscription.

Dave?

If Don gave me those baseballs, I would give them to my girlfriend's dog.

Christopher,

I see now...We are just spectators at this point...I just feel that the sale piece of this conversation should have been handled with a PM.

Sorry, I'm late to the game.
I don't like either ball. Both look very deliberate.
To me, the Mantle looks closer than the Joe D.

Well folks....everyone is entitled to their opinion. Don, since you believe these are bad, I'll offer you 15.00 a ball, which is about what a plain BB baseball is worth. Here is your chance to sell a couple of worthless balls if serious.

Chris, not at all. I wouldn't have given my opinion in the first place if I were just going to jump on the bandwagon like others have because someone disagrees with me.

Then why would you offer Don only $15.00 a piece for those autographs?

If you think they are authentic, $150.00 for each autographed baseball is a heckuva bargain. On the Mantle alone, you could easily net $250.00.

Because he thinks these are forgeries, as do you and others that have chimed in. I know he wouldn't want to sell forgeries, nor you, nor the others that have chimed in for the wholesale price of an authentic Mantle or DiMaggio signed ball. Since neither of you would want to sale forgeries, I offered him the price on a decent BB baseball. Seems I am the only one interested in buying these, so what's the problem with what I am offering, since these are forgeries in your opinion?

So if you feel that strongly that they are authentic, I think $150.00 each is one heckuva bargain. Why would care what I thought about those autographs? You're the one that was so adamant about them being authentic in your opinion and that "You would have no problem buying and selling them" because "You've been dealing in autographs for 20 years."

Chris,

I really don't care what you think is a heck of a bargain. If you think these are forgeries, fine, you have stated that numerous times. I made him an offer, if he doesn't like it, all he has to say is no. It is really none of your business whether you like my offer or not. Don offered me a price, I told him what I would pay. End of matter.

15 dollars is an even better bargain. Dealers need to negotiate, no? Would you have a problem with the seller letting them go at either price?

I like this thread. It is getting at the base of the fact that perception IS truth in this area of the hobby.

David, if you think the balls are authentic pay the price if not then don't buy them You cant have it both ways. Don never said if they are real or not. He offered them to you at a price because of the doubt that some of us put into his head. So,stop playing the fool and make the deal or admit you made a mistake My question to you is do we still call you Big Dave or just Dave?
Chris is correct this really has gone far enough.

I came back from vacation and saw so many threads asking for autograph opinions that I just had to skip them but it was mentioned to me that I would find this one amusing.
I looked at the two baseballs and would not take them if you gave me $15 with the balls.
$150 I would take with the balls but I would burn the balls afterward.
