Default Johnnie Jones? autographed photo questions

Posted By: Alan Elefson

Hi-
I recently acquired this autographed photo of Johnnie Jones "Baseball's Youngest Comedian," at least according to the inscription, and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of him before? I could not find a Johnnie Jones whoose age would match the player in the photo while searching online. I did pick it up in California so it could be a minor league player as well. Has anyone ever seen an oversized, official looking glove like the one he is holding? I wish I could find that while antiquing! Any additional information about Johnnie would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Alan Elefson

I did a search as well and came up with nothing. You might be right, though, he could have been an entertainer for a local minor league team or such. Maybe he won the local high school talent tryout.

Funny thing about baseball clowns, all you needed was a bent hat, large velvet jacket, and an oversized glove. The level of originality didn't really change until teams started employing their own mascots. Seems to have come full circle with every team essentially having the same goofy muppet running around with no pants.
