Nice article and an interesting story. We use to switch bats all the time in youth baseball. Someone always had the "hot" bat haha.

In 1973 I saved up and finally bought a 'Johnny Bench' Louisville slugger. It was the sweetest feeling bat I had ever hit with. My best friend asked to borrow it for one at bat, promising to be very careful with it. He broke it in two the first time he connected. He later redeemed himself when I was pitching against one of the worst teams in the league and a guy hit one over the left-field fence for the only home run hit in our league that year (massively deep outfield). My friend was playing left field and claimed it bounced over - it was getting dark and no one argued!

I finally bought another one of these bats, on ebay last year, and plan to take it out on my birthday for a few swings.
