Isn't there supposed to be a clock on REA showing if there has been a bid in the last 15 minutes?

Yes, check the clock on your wall. If it is still running so is the auction.

Jeff,

Please pace yourself. It's only 10 p.m. You've got at least another 5-6 hours to post comments about the auction-that-never-ends. You don't want to peak too soon.

Rob, see, that's where you're wrong: I've got literally a hundred obnoxious comments at the ready for the Auction That Never Ends. I AM pacing myself!

As to the lack of an REA clock, we should probably blame PSA.

Adam, I have a set of diagrams which actually demonstrate that it's both PSA and Mastro's fault for the lack of a clock in REA. I would post my work but I don't have a scanner here.

Ever had impending buyer's remorse for an auction that was still going? I have, and fortunately, I just got the long awaited "outbid" e-mail! Relief!

James, man, I am right there with you! (or, where you were!) I meant to buy ONE of the cards I'm winning on, but I'm winning them all. Awaiting that life-saving outbid e-mail...

And I was wondering how the prices were getting so high - you guys are bidding on stuff you don't even want to win!

Is the thought that the items that haven't received bids since 4pm "may" end at 11pm est? God i'm getting tired already, need to go put on coffee.

Dave - all items close at the same time - 3 AM on Wednesday. The last part may be a joke.

having no clock sucks.

mastro handles this much better.

Even if all lots end at the same time.... would it hurt to put up a clock?

yes... I am tired and cranky.

Actually, upon closer inspection they have a "clock" but it actually isn't reflective of anything and is therefore worthless. Each auction page has a line:
End: 5/3/2008 10:45:00 PM EST
that gets bumped 15 minutes later every 15 minutes. It has nothing to do with when the last bid came in and is therefore not reflective of anything. Not sure why it's there.

Are you currently high bidder on the lots you are hoping to win or are you waiting it out longer? On one of my lots, I'm waiting for another bid to come in so I get the bidding slot I want.

Matt-

Just curious why you wouldnt set the autobid limit at the slot you want? Anybody can go ahead and bid up to that slot and you'll lose out anyway...do you not trust doing that?

I'm not sure I understand, either, Matt. In case of a tie, the person with the autobid wins, so there would seem to be no reason not to place an autobid.

Dave - on the autobid, you can only bid every other slot. If the lot is currently at $2000 and I want to bid $2500, autobid won't help since with it, I can only set it to $2750, which would put me in the lead at $2250 and then leave the $2500 slot for someone else.

Well, whether its coffee or alcohol the Old Judge Ward is definately a sought after card. Don't know what else has moved lately but must be something being bid on.

>>Dave - on the autobid, you can only bid every other slot..<<

I called today and tried to occupy a slot in between the autobid increments
and they said "no can do". Not on the phone not with the software. It certainly
contributes to dragging the whole thing out.

but Jeff, we're now after 11 PM EST and they clearly say:
"There will be no warning to exactly when we will close the auction should bidding continue past 11:00 P.M. EST."

Maybe we can make our own auction clock. If any of us bid or get outbid, post it here so that we know the auction will go for at least 15 minutes after that. There is no need to post which lot since any lot extends it another 15 minutes.

Is there any way on REA to see what was bid on last? While I twiddle my thumbs, I'd like to see where the action is...

Seth-

Hit the "browse by lot #" and then you can click on the # of bids category and see whats had the most action...as far as being able to see what was bid on last, I havent found anything like that.

I cannot believe the one lot I'm butting heads with someone else on. It's approaching 3x what I thought it would sell for and was the one thing I had pegged as not causing me any angst. Shows what I know.

Most people are just getting home from dinner out here, Jeff. REA certainly does not want to exclude those potential bidders.

I just got the best email from Doug Allen/Mastro making fun of REA for its "discretionay ending" and "offering bidders" yet another hour of sleep by claiming that the 30 min rule will start at 11 pm EST. I have to say, I find it hilarious and don't blame them a bit for twisting the knife. Say what you want about Mastro (and I do) but their ending is like heaven compared to this.
