Default Wire Photo Help

These are from the Daily News. Wagner feels and looks more vintage. They both have great clarity, especially Gehrig. Can you date them by the stamp on the back? Any value?
Thanks
Matt

Default Gehrig

The Gehrig is pretty modern because I can see the name of the paper maker on the back. Definitely not a Type 1.

Default Gehrig

The Gehrig has a zip code on the back of the photo, zip codes started in 1963

The Gehrig is definitely modern because of the zip code in the address on the back. I can't really tell if it's on the Wagner, but if it is, I'd have to say that it's modern as well.

Zip codes weren't used until 1963.

Sorry bob, just noticed you beat me to it.

Clarity is nice. Probably from an original neg or very nice copy print.

Gehrig looks like it's from the 70's or later.

Wagner looks to be 60's or so.

Gehrig may be $20 range. Wagner maybe $20-30. Sometimes if it's an uncommon pose, it might go for more, even though it's a recent print.

I would bet that you could get $10-$20 each for them as 1970's era prints. Not vintage but still 40 years old and with the News Stamps on the back they are way better than something that is just a novelty modern photo.

Just remember that United Press International (UPI) was formed in the late 1950s. United Press (UP) was the name the used before that. So if the stamps said United Press instead, they could have been originals.

UPI did make a good number of reprinted images of Pre-War subjects

PSA/DNA would grade them, just not as Type Is.

Despite being made later, they're all legitimate news service photos. And only a limited number would have been made. These were only offered to subscribing newspapers, magazines and and kept in UPI's own files.
