No worries...I had a few others in mind as culprits but not you. All is fair in love and bidding on cards....Now that we are partnering in Mastro I won't have to worry about you. It's always good to join forces with the enemy...

I was actually thinking "why is it that the one freaking card I want in every auction always the one that extends the 15 minutes rule over and over and over while everyone else's auction is done?"

I won my first card from an auction house! I got the 1922 Exhibit Umpire Rigler.

Jeff, stop bidding on rare Cobb cards and you won't have to worry about extended bidding.

Leon, enjoy the Cobb! It was fun watching it last night! It was still around $600 at 8:00pm, only to jump jump jump!

I had wondered if a better description would have helped it's sale (it's the only card from the set ever graded/authenticated), but everything worked out quite nice! Hands down one of the "rarest" cards I ever had a chance to own.

Take care,
Kyle

I completely forgot about that card.

I was going to jump in on the bidding (at the time it was in the $hundreds ).

Very cool pickup.

As a fellow type collector, I love that Cobb. One of two wins ('79 Earl Campbell SGC 96 being the other)

I got blown out of the water on E105s. Smells like SDI.

Andrew,
I almost put one more bid in on that Billy Sunday. Would that have done it? Congrats on a great card.

Kyle, I was glad to oblige. I almost went one more simply out of my competitive nature...and then I remembered that Mastro was coming up.

I was done...I went to bed after my last bid and woke up this morning and went straight to the computer to see ..... No idea if I overpaid but it is a very rare Cobby....and I like rarity....personally, much more than a condition rarity...but to each their own....regards

Leon, that's funny. I was about to make one last bid but thought that there was some maniac on the other end bidding against me! The card was like 700 bucks right before the close of the auction; I have no clue what it is worth because, obviously, there has never been another one for sale. Of course, when you're ready to sell you'll know firsthand who the other maniac is who would be willing to pay that price...

I won the t3 speaker but paid too much - put in a bid at the beginning of the auction thinking it was a 3 not a 30 - still looks nice, but I wish I had paid closer attention when placing my top all bid.

Josh- I can relate, because even I have done that.

In my haste, I'll forget a 50 is a 4 and not a 5, a 40 is a 3 and not a 4, etc. It happens when you are doing too many things at once and not focussing.

But you know, an SGC 50 IS a PSA 5 and an SGC 40 IS a PSA 4. Buy the card not the holder.

Now that's a fair point!

But often I am doing spreadsheets and dealing with a lot of cards and a lot of numbers, and that's when I'm most likely to make an error.

The days of getting "good deals" in Goodwin are over. Now you just go after things you really need and pay the price. The Mello-Mints really took off too.

Jim,

One more bid would have cost me more money, so thank you.

Bob,
Agreed on the Mello-Mints. I was completely blown out. I thought I was bidding strongly on four of them and was not even the underbidder when I woke up this morning.

I did not participate in the Goodwin auction as a consignor or a bidder, but if the closing prices of the Dandridge and Dihigo cards are reflective of a new market value, then I believe I probably won the college tuitions of both my children last night. Of course, they are 6 and 2, so there is still time for a market "correction" before they leave home. Maybe they'll still have to get scholarships after all.

Holy crap. If anyone wants to pay $6190 for my Dihigo, it's available. Same card and same condition as Goodwin's. I think about 7 years ago, you could buy it for $61.90.

Holy crap is right! I have a DiHigo RC and though I don't want to sell mine, I would gladly take over $6,000 for it! Heck, I'll sell mine to the runner up in that auction for a measly $5,000!

Wow the prices were high! Great for the consigners and for Bill. I was going to bid on some stuff..but it was too rich for my blood. The Dihigo and Dandridge cards..maybe its time to sell mine too...

While many Cuban cards are unquestionably rare, the Caramelo de Portivos are not. I'm not sure collectors even know the difference any more.
