Default Hal, remember that thread.....

Hal,

Do you remember that thread you posted not so long ago... the one where the NL East is all over .500, the Central was split 50/50 on winning/losing records and the West was all below .500.... DID YOU HEAR WHAT HAPPENED?

San Diego wins the West with a .500 record... possibly they can have a losing record by the time it's over... Maybe they'll do the respectable thing and at least have a winning record... or even a .500 record...

If the Padres make it to the Series, is that a stinky?

If the Padres LOSE all of their remaining regular season games...

and THEN win each of their postseason series by only a ONE game margin (3-2, 4-3, 4-3)...

then they could be WORLD CHAMPIONS with a LOSING RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT, my friends, would be a stinky.

They are 79-79...

but have 4 regular season games left.

They could finish the regular season at 79-83...

beat the Braves 3-2 in that series,

beat the Cards/Astros 4-3 in that series,

and beat the AL Champ 4-3 in the World Series...

and be WORLD CHAMPS with a final record of...

90-91

Yuk!

They fattened up with the unbalanced schedule on really crappy NL West teams. I mean the Dodgers were so bad they were unwatchable. Practically a AAA team starting every game. And they were the best of the rest of the west...

With the Sox, young Indians, even younger Tigers and the Twins due for a facelift despite their great young pitchers, the AL Central will be the toughest division in baseball next year.
What was the record of the '73 (?) Mets when they made the playoffs and everyone raised hell and they almost won the Series? Was it 83-79 or something like that?
