Default Is your collection insured?

I know members here have some nice and expensive collections. Do you insure your collection? If so, with what?

I am curious I should insure mine or not. It is not a big collection but it is worth over couple thousands though.

I never did but probably should have. i sold most of it off, but as with everything if you don't, you roll the dice. the vast majority of the time you will be okay, but if it is that one in 10,000 or whatever, then you wish you would have.

Most people that insure either have separate riders on their homeowners policy (as a normal homeowners policy doesn't cover valuable collections.) or else they purchase a separate policy from outside companies that specialize at insuring collections.

premiums go from nominal to substantial depending on the scope and worth of the collection and they might require you to have a safe or store it in a proper way in order for them to insure it.

Yes.

I've been using Collectibles Insurance Agency for years. I've never had a claim, but I have heard anecdotal evidence that they are reasonable with claims. Quite frankly, the insurance pays for itself simply by then not having to buy postal insurance. It is relatively inexpensive IMO.

I have no interest in the company. If it is something you decide to pursue, contact me privately and I can provide a discount code for 5% off the first year premium.

Thanks Mr. Zipper!

Prefect! That is what I was actually looking for. Give them an estimate price of worth and it is an annually cost. I can combine my sports and toy collections together to get insure as well.

Right. I have one policy that covers my autographs and comics. What is nice you only need to itemize single items worth more than $5,000. I will PM you the code.

Collectinsure is not cheap. They charge me a dealer rate since I sell on ebay.

Yes, more coverage = more premium. And dealer rates are higher than collector rates. If you occasionally sell as a "collector," collectors coverage will provide all you need.

If you maintain an inventory as part of a business venture and transport to shows, you will need dealer coverage.
