Default 1911 Baseball Bat cards....rare?

Posted By: Dave F

How rare are these? I set a snipe on a couple last night but got pretty much blown out of the water.

Sorry Dave, not much to add other than that they are uncommon and the prices were not surprising to me. I would have also liked to pick one up for a couple hundred, but didn't have my heart in it at these levels. Zach Rice sold a group in the past year or two so he would know better.

I have followed these for several years. They are very scarce and the prices seemed about right, maybe even a tad low.....There are 3 different kinds of them....all being fairly equal in supply, from what I have seen....

Leon,

Are some players known in more than one type?

Paul

Not really sure if all players are known in each type but I have seen more Benders, like the one I have, than any others....and all have the same style....My guess, and this is only a guess, is that each player could be found in each style...Don't ask why I would guess that as I don't know....that's why it's a guess...

This may sound stupid..but who made them? I'm assuming somebody called Baseball Bats? What were they?

They were part of a candy box that said Baseball Bats Candy on it...one side was a player. The big book SCD has a picture of a full box in it.....

They’re tough cards, however, if you’re looking for just a single of any player and of any of the three types, finding one won’t present too much of a challenge. Over the past year I have seen at least 20 different examples sell. I believe them to be much easier to find than similar cards of the era (J=k Candy, Orange Borders, etc).

The set has some really neat poses of players that aren’t seen in too many issues. Collin’s pose is the same as his E125, Brown’s pose is the same as his E93, and Speaker’s pose is the same as his T3 Turkey Red. From what I’ve seen, the types with the orange border and red background usually depict cruder images than those seen on the other two types.

Edited to add an image of two 1911 Baseball Bats accompanied with their original packaging.
