Default 1933 Goudey Sports Kings Completed in PSA 8

Posted By: JimCrandell

Feel exhilerated as I completed what is one of my favorite sets--1933 Goudey Sport Kings-- in PSA 8. Two months ago I went from 32 to 46 cards in psa 8 when I traded a number of pop 1 and 2 T206s to Don Louchios for 14 psa 8s including the Jones, Cobb and Ruth. The final two came from the Memory Lane Auction(Holman) and another trade with Don where he swapped me the Sarazen in psa 8 for 7 low pop M116s in psa 8 and 9 and a low pop 39 Play Ball.
In the pre-war area, I am next turning to the 41 Play Balls which are nearing completion in PSA 8 and the 34-36 Diamond Stars where I need 17 for an 8 or better set.

Jim

Todd,

Thanks--its long been one of my favorites.

I have them all up on one of my walls in my "room"--they look awesome.

Cmoking,

Am going to be working on just the 34 Goudeys where I am about 2/3 done in psa 8

While I have about 45-50 of the 33s, too big of an undertaking for me to attempt to finish at the present time.

It is also one of my favorite sets. The colors on these cards are just incredible.
Mine is complete and has more than 1/2 graded PSA 7 ..balance is lower and overall averages PSA 6. I know getting my set to this stage was tough..I can't even imagine how tough it was for you.
Good luck with the rest of your sets.

I don't know if this is something you care about, but if you ever want to trade some 1933 Goudey PSA 8s for 1934 Goudey PSA 8s, I'd be up for that.

I care alot about my 1934 Goudey collection (76% set to completion), but the 33 Goudeys are #1 in my book. So if I can improve my 33 Goudey set, I'd trade away anything to do so.

My email is cmoking@yahoo.com (I've emailed you before regarding your 33 Goudeys).

So just in case trading works for you, the 34 Goudey PSA 8s I have are:

7 Leo Durocher
11 Paul Waner
13 Frank Frisch
17 Hugh Critz
22 Floyd Vaughan
30 Julius Solters
32 Blondy Ryan
33 Don Hurst
37 Lou Gehrig
54 Wesley Schulmerich
56 Mark Koenig
61 Lou Gehrig
74 Bob Boken
78 Pinkey Higgins
90 Ki Ki Cuyler
95 Myril Hoag

I do not have scanning capability. However, if you live in the Northeast, I am having another collector/dealer party soon where I will be having Dave Forman speak to the direction of SGC and I will have tours of my collection.

Jim:

Congrats on the Sports Kings set! I am curious regarding your 1934 Diamond Stars collection. Is the #1 Lefty Grove card one that you need or one that you already have in PSA 8 or better? There must only be a few of his DS cards that are 8 or better.

Brad

In all seriousness--

I found your comment on the other thread outrageous and said so, but I'm sure completing this set is very satisfying.

Just don't assume, please, that those of us working on lower-grade vintage sets don't find it equally satisfying (and may even qualify us as "advanced")

Regards,
Tim

Brad,

Card number 1 in psa 8,Lefty Grove, is one of the ones I need. The card has skyrocketed in value in recent years.

There was one in the Mastro auction but I passed.

My set is on the PSA Set Registry under Davalillo.

Tim,

I thought was questioning the other gentleman's comment that most advanced collectors did not collect graded cards.

Regardless, sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

In my world and I have done this a long time it is essential that cards be graded.

Jim
