Default 1980 Butterworth Topps Packs

There are some packs currently listed on ebay for 1980 Topps distributed with Mrs. Butterworth's Syrup. I quickly picked up the ones with Dodgers showing on the outside since I was previously unaware they existed and then I started wondering if they were legit releases or creatively manufactured in someone's basement as a ploy to raise some xmas funds.

Does anyone remember these being distributed? Can anyone confirm their legitimacy?

Their legit Joe. I remember when they came out. There were also similar packs issued with Squirt and a 3rd company that I can't recall at the moment. Here is a Squirt seller link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Squirt-Soda-...item2346797f4d

Hunts Bread was the 3rd one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-8-Uno...item3396ffdb90

K-Mart also had a similar 3 pack.

I have a couple of the Hunt's Bread packs. Was unaware of the Squirt and Butterworth packs. Picked up one of each. Thanks for heads up

I guess I am lucky I grabbed the Garvey pack before you saw them. I assume it was the same seller ($7.50 BIN?). I briefly though that is might have been some of the pack manipulation that seems to be so common in the unopened market, of which i am a novice, but the seller had a variety of regular and a few star players on top and was not asking a premium on the star packs so I figured even if it was fake, I am only out $7.50. If they were real, I couldn't waste any time waiting or researching them.

Al, the header cards for these are actually listed in the Beckett Almanac under 1980 Topps. Apparently the Hunt's bread was a Canadian issue for OPC cards. They list 4 Promotional headers:

Mrs. Buttersworth
K-Mart
Squirt
Hunts Bread

page 858
2014 Almanac

Thanks for the input, Randy.

Yes, Curt. Same seller. Congrats on getting the Garvey!

I do! It's excellent, especially on vanilla or something that is vanilla with stuff in it.

It might be a New England thing, we take our syrup a bit more seriously.

Even better is the straight Maple sap over shaved ice or if you're a bit brave these days snow.

West Coaster here and never would have though to put syrup on ice cream.

Caramel or hot fudge, yes!

We did maple syrup on ice cream (mainly vanilla) in WNY State also.

Default Syrup

Fred and Steve seem to have a weird eastern affliction of some kind. They likely put caramel and chocolate sauce on their pancakes

I have, but not regularly.

I also like
Frosting on Ritz crackers
Nacho cheese on Oreos
Ice cream floats made with beer

And probably a few other odd things.

Mixing caramel, chocolate and Maple on ice cream is also good, but I get too many comments from my wife if I do that.

Default Ice cream and beer

Steve-- you need to get some of the Japanese ice cream with squid or oysters in it to float in your beer

Maybe. Tried Squid before. Not much to talk about as calamari, and small squids in a tin is pretty much like Tuna at a much higher price.

Not sure about the oysters....Fried clams are ok, but only really good ones. I think the texture of oysters would bother me.

Getting back to cards, I had a stack of what I recall as Mrs Butterworth packs, but they were different, more like cards between heat sealed cellophane maybe the size of 4 packs than a cello pack. I've been looking through the computer and can't find the scans I had.

Here's one most people think is very strange but was a WNY State thing I believe--I put salt on a banana. Peel and eat w/ a shaker in hand.

Cut up & on cereal w/ sugar is OK too!
