Default Zeenut cards of players with major league experience (and only one Zeenut issued)

Just another in a series aimed at those who just can not get enough of esoteric lists. This list contains all the known players with major league experience who only had one Zeenut card issued. This information was culled/extracted from the Don McPherson (with the aid of Buck Barker) list originally published in a series of Old Judge newsletters. There are famous and well-known players, and plenty that even the most avid fans are probably unfamiliar. I have identified each player by their given first and last names (nicknames noted if given name not as familiar), and have included the year the player's Zeenut was issued. For the 1933-36 and 1937-38 issues (which were actually separate issues for each year, but are lumped together in catalog listings because of the difficulty of ascertaining an individual card's year of issue...thanks a lot, coupon clipping kids of yore!), certain players on this list may be undeservedly included below. May they consider themselves lucky. Also, I have included players that had both one Zeenut AND a 1912 Home Run King card issued, which I have indicated below with an asterick.

I imagine the Zeenut cards of a fair amount of these players were the only ones issued during their career, but I will leave that for others to track this info down.

Default Bud nipping DiMaggio

Mr. Joe DiMaggio was left off the list because it he had two different poses in the 1933/36 Zeenut issues, and they are well known to be issued in different years. Just trying to nip a potential question in the bud.

Sam Brenegan has an interesting story, sort of. He is one of my least favorite Pirates players. He came in to catch during a blowout for his major league debut. On a passed ball, he walked after the ball, then had a ball hit has hand a couple pitches later, walked after that ball too, then walked to the bench, taking himself out of the game. That was his major league career.

Default Udated list

I have updated the list through players with last names starting with 'J'. I had it up through 'O' on Saturday, but let's just say my dog flushed all that work down the toilet. I felt like I had to do something so that this weekend wasn't a complete waste of compilation efforts.

Default I'm done

To all list mongerers...I completed this list as promised. No research on my part, just a bunch of culling from the McPherson/Barker list and a lot of typing. Print it out, as it is suitable for framing.

Default One last hurrah

One final bump before oblivion. Hopefully I ensnare at least one more collector who may have missed the previous postings.

If you printed off the list earlier, you've made a fatal mistake. I have made changes that naturally will occur with such a long list of names. Now you are doomed to make a printer cartridge run!

The final tally is 340 major league players that had only one Zeenut issued. Thankfully we now have a list the indicates this, and which includes plenty of parentheses. May the next list I create be more relevant.

Every once in awhile a thread of limited desirability needs to be brought up to the light of day. May it rear its stubborn little head again for another 15 minutes of fame, and maybe snare another victim.

I love this list, Brian.

Wish Zeenuts would get more love and airtime over here. One of the coolest run of cards in the hobby

Default Bernhard

I made this scan in 2013, apparently not for this thread. I don't know what it means other than it's probably time for a new laptop.

I'm glad there is at least one out there who took my advice and printed/framed this list.

My best guess at the usefulness of this list is that, if looking to collect a certain MLB player and you find him on this list, you would know that he had no other Zeenut cards issued, so you better snag it if one were to pop up for sale, because no other Zeenut cards were issued of that player.

Brian (we're talking about a tiny sliver of helpful info!)

In a recent thread a fellow collector was looking for some Zeenut information about New York Yankee players that have Zeenut cards. Though the list at the top of thread doesn't really address what he is looking for, it definitely can be used as a start (with some dedicated digging).

I have a whole bunch of various Zeenuts, various years. I don't have a single one from the list...it figures.

There are 1100 or so additional players with the Major Leagues on their resumes that have Zeenut cards available from more than one set, so unless the world is an extraordinarily cruel and heartless place, I assume you have at least some of those fellows.

And an appropriate final entry: Do not steal this card for fear the gallows will be your end (complete with drawing of unfortunate stick figure hanging from the gallows)

Default Orval Overall

Wondering if anyone has (for sale or not) an Orval Overall ZeeNut? I've been collecting him for years and have never seen this card available. I've seen a picture of it, but wondering if anyone actually owns one?

Oh yes, I do have some of them, players and managers and coaches. This is a pretty cool thing you've done here, sir. Very interesting.
