Three years ago I was pretty much buying nothing but 99% T206's. Today, it's all over the board..E's, D's, T's for the most part...never been too many pre-1900 issues.

What about you...still collecting the same thing as three years ago or have things changed?

Still type cards but have started a D303 master set, 1916 Big Heads and T209-1 color set....There is a never ending supply of type cards to be had. I also pick up T216 Virginia Extras when I can, because I am a card addict.

ditto. i was all-T206s 3 years ago, with particular focus on southern leaguers. now, i'm all over the place, but stick exclusively with yankees, and now pirates, for some reason...

Rob D,
Whilst many of the great card budgets have now gone down the toilet bowl,I believe the Bruce or Bruces or Brucei's philosophy of "CASH IS KING" will be able to get all of us thru this very hard time. Now if we all had the Cash to back up that statement there would be no problem!

I started collecting Novelty Cutlery postcards about three years ago, & still pursuing them today. Also, I didn't have much focus back then other than it being pre war. Now I'm trying to focus on the following sets:

Novelty Cutlery Postcards
PC796 Sepia Postcards
Detroit Free Press Postcards
Grignon Cubs Postcards
N28 World Champions
Babe Ruth & Ty Cobb cards/items

I started with anything I could make a dollar on. A while back, I realized I didn't have the amount of "Cash" needed to be the "King", so I settled into exclusively collecting. It started with M116's, T206's, T205's, and T207's. If you ask my wife, she will tell you I need some sort of, what did she call it...."HELP"?!? There is absolutely nothing Pre-war off the table. I do try to buy smart. I have sat on eBay and bid on several hundred items just because they were at ridiculously low prices. But, I have bought strong when I am working on one of my sets. Eye appeal is everything to me, followed by price. I have no goals for completing anything and I only hope to be ble to pass this on to my children.

I am collecting the exact same material today as I was 3 years ago. Anything Nashville (Tennessee) / Southern League and of course, trade bait so I can give trade partners good deals, like 2 for 1 trades....

Nashville Anything... Still looking for 19th century Nashville stuff. (They started in 1870 in Nashville, but nothing out there that I can find...)

Several years ago, I started collecting T206 HOF'ers. Gosh folks, I just can't do all the commons for the "set" sake. But I wanted a set - my own set - a set not on the PSA set registry.

T206 Deadly dozen set - in PSA 5 or better:

All 4 Cobb's
All 3 Matty's
The two W.Johnson's
All 3 Young's

Gosh darn, I had the Matty dk, but sold it year ago - shouldn't have. Now its the only one I need to complete my mini-set.

I have a nice for the grade T206 Speaker PSA 5 - perhaps trade for T206 Matty dk? Anyone?

steve

3 years ago I was collecting Ken Griffey Jr. and high end cards of minor league prospects for resale. I was all modern. Now I am focused on going after the T206 set, and I have 91 (I think) different T206's, including 2 Cobbs. I have also started going after a Cubs type card set, and I think I have 5 or 6 different cards in that...just started a few months ago.

I looked at what I bought in March and April of 2006 and this is what was on my spreadsheet. I still own every card listed below.

1951BowmanMays
1904Fan Craze Plank
1917Collins McCarthy Hornsby
1916Standard Biscuit Sisler
1916Sporting News Sisler
1887Old Judge Anson
1887Old Judge Kelly

These cards I bought, but have since sold:

1909T206 (Uzit) Jennings (both hands)
1904Fan Craze Lajoie
1951Topps Irvin
1933Goudey #223 Dean
1909T206 (Sweet Cap Overprint) Mathewson (white cap)
1909T206 (Carolina Brights)Bresnahan
1913National Game Alexander

Now, my purchases are much more selective. I have bought two cards since October.

Three years ago I was working my way back through time, finishing the '33 and '34 Goudey sets and contemplating an attempt at a pre-WW1 set. Subsequently collected a T3 set "scorched earth" style (Keith O'Leary and Craig Diamond were able to retire to the South of Spain after I was done) and a shock'n'awe D304 set (ditto Mastro). Today my focus has changed for the most part away from sets and toward ultra-rare high grade cards or whatever.

Good thing David you put in the "whatever" at the end because I was thinking you were part of the Bruce(s) Consortium who by the way seem to be out of the country (all of them) since dropping the bombshell on Joann last week.

And is that a Hockey card I see in your post? Beat up but bravo.

As for me, 3 years ago was the same as today, collecting pre-war Red Sox although I had not yet found this forum 3 years back so I have gained in knowledge thanks to the folks on this forum.

Michael: I was just trying to be cute and clever. I always get a kick out of Bruces' plethora of penultimate ultra-rare high grade cards extant shtick, it is so endearingly bizarre, and I like to employ it myself now and then. That being said I do have some ultra-rare high grade, depending on how you define it, mixed in with the whatevers, and I do collect some hockey. Check out my Ice Kings:http://tinyurl.com/5rxkal pw=aloha. There are a dozen or so hockey typecards at the bottom of the page, too.

David: Great Ice Kings! I have the Bruins subset but thinking of starting the entire set. I truly love old Hockey cards and I know there are many board members rolling their eyes at the thought of Hockey cards so I will not belabor my point.

I knew you were being satiracal to the Bruce(s). Before I started reading this board, I could not figure out what was going on with this group. But now I know and it is all in good fun and I think the consortium opens themselves up to and expects a little fun at their expense.

Thanks for the link to the cards!

Exhibits, boxing, oddball baseball. I've also added more cards from the 1940s-1970s as the prices on them have declined.
