Default What 2 cards would not sell even if you where offered...

What 2 cards would not sell even if you where offered say 40% to 50% over current market value?

I would have to go with my 52 Topps Mantle in PSA 4 and my T206 Murray variation card (misspelled name).

If you have pictures please post them I do not have any available.

Guys come on the fight is over like Leon said let's talk cards. If you are not able to talk cards PLEASE do not write in my thread....I will not allow this one to become a train wreck. And will not answer any replies if they do not pertain to baseball cards.

Please don't answer this and use a post Adrian, but I agree with you. And to answer the question, probably my Peck and Snyder and my T231. But those cards could change...

Do you own the Mantle because in the other thread it seemed as if you don't have one...max would be a graded 4

Edited not asking to incite a riot, just not sure if you ever bought one. Feel free to PM me the answer to not use your daily post pool

Yes I do own a 52 Topps Mickey Mantle in PSA 4 (just meant that is one of the cards I would be OK with spending that kind of money on and I did the other 3 cards in that thread you are referring to I do not own) I should have wrote beside that statement already owned I just took for granted people already knew that here...I was wrong I guess.

For 150% market value, I'd sell every card I own, other than my pops' stuff from when he was a kid. Then I'd start collecting all over again with the cash

Well, I am not too creative or esoteric, but my 1914 Cracker Jack Del Pratt and Christy Mathewson will not be going anywhere at any price.

For me Adrian, i love each cards in my collection but if i 'll receive an offer over the price i'll sell.

Everything is for sale at the right price, i really love my cards but everything have a price.

Default Paul, is that Johnson

the one that showed up on eBay a couple years ago that was 1) for sale by someone and 2) sitting in your collection at the same time? I seem to remember contacting you about a card that you already owned that was up for auction, and the guy claimed he owned it, even though it was a scan of a card you owned at the time, same number and everything....

This one, just because it's the first prewar card I bought. Market value is pretty low, so 50% over just wouldn't be worth it.

There really isn't a second one. There are a bunch of cards that 40-50% over might not be enough simply because I really couldn't replace them. Either ones that are really hard to find, or ones that are in way above average condition.

Ditto, everything is for sale for the right price. If someone offered me $1m for my collection, I would cash the check and start trudging up the hill again!

to be fair to the OP, he's asking what would you not sell for 150% of market value. Of course you'd sell your collection for $1M, but is it already worth $700k? Most of us would sell for 10x market value, but which cards would you not sell for a small profit?

I my question was if you would sell a card even if offered 40% to 50% over current market value not 150%.

For me, with the exception of a few 60s cards that could very very easily be replaced, that wouldn't be enough of a premium to entice me to sell anything, I don't think. Just not worth the effort to start the search again.

The only ones I would not sell are those from my original childhood collection. For a 40-50% premium over market I would sell any as long as I felt I could replace it easliy at market price.

Edited to add: There are some others with sentimental value that I would not sell, but in the grand scheme of things are nothing special.

Default hmmm...

I think a similar question was asked about a year or so ago... and the card that I listed as my answer has been traded away.

At this point, I'd have to list these two. Anything else in my collection could be probably be replaced (and pretty easily); I have another Rossman-McBride, but it's not as nice:

I only have one card that I am that sentimentally tied to. My dad bought me a Clemente rookie back in '85 for my 11th birthday. It's a little off-center, but would probably grade at a 4 or 5. I could replace it, but could never replace the memories of my childhood that it brings. So, it is priceless to me.

Thanks
- Jason

My two cards I would never sell I purchased as a kid, the T-206 Clarke was my first pre ww2 HOFer and a gift from my parents. The Nabisco Clemente was a card I had on my want list that I searched for at a few conventions and was so happy to finally find one-

I guess id would say 1921 Schapira Bros Ruth (graded A - buts its Mint) & then its a toss up between my jordan RC (BVG8) - Gretzky RC (bccg 8) - or the reprint (yes reprint) (forgot the year 20??) of a 1952 topps mays that is actually signed by him. Sig is auth. I pulled it from a pack fresh my self.

What happened to the card on the right why is it moving so much in the screw down holder? Why not just send it in for grading to preserve it better?

Nice type one 1952 Topps Mantle (Nice colors for the grade...corners are pretty good as well)!!! How long have you owned the Mantle for?

Cheap screwdown holder, oddly enough it should show up later today properly slabbed.

My dad pulled it from a pack when he was 10...don't waste a post on me

It would be tough to part with any of my 1910 Tip Top Bread Cards, (Dreyfus in particular),
also my 53 Glendale Houtteman (took me forever to get one).

Is that the Pro-Mold single screw holder? Is card shifting typical of those holders? I almost bulk-ordered those!!!

Adrian.....is your 52T Mantle a type 1 or 2? Would like to see a scan.

Also....Does your t206 Murray have a bad back?
Seems strange that as a former coin collector you would want a card with a damaged "reverse". I realize that paper loss is acceptable to some collectors, but I for one just pass on any card with part of it missing.

I have too many to list, but I'll say the easy two choices would be my first T206 card, Bresnahan, portrait and my first Old Judge card, Joe Mulvey. I bought them in 1991, which means I've owned them for much longer than I haven't owned them(counting my lifetime only). Since both are lower grade, 50% over value(which is 150% of the value by the way Adrian) wouldn't even get a response from me. Since neither is tough to find elsewhere, there would be no reason for anyone to pay my price on them, which would be well past 100x actual value....well past

Cardboard Junkie

Here are both Ebay links for both cards the 52 is a type 2 (the colors are VERY vibrant in real life compared to pics in the link bellow). Well like anything when only a few exist some times we bend our own rules....in this case the Murray has a real nice front and a real bad back.

and

Sorry NEVER take pictures of my cards and do not own a camera...and soon as I receive a card worth more than a 1000$ it goes directly into my bank vault no exceptions.

Zone,

Send your cards to me and I'll photograph them for you. I promise to take good care of them.

p.s. We need an emoticon with a halo over its head for posts just like this one!

Actually my most important card was a MVP from Mario Lemieux's rookie year that my mother purchased for me as a kid for Christmas but when moving some stuff years sago it was lost forever. It was less than a 100$ but meant a lot to me!!!

This is what the card looks like (not the one I actually owned):

Adrian,
Nice cards. The pictures from ebay auctions will eventually be removed. If you don't have a camera, I would at least save the image to your computer so that you have a picture of it.
