Default Fun PCL find this weekend at PDX antique show

I came across a booth with a lot of different types of antiques. On the bottom of one of his shelves, just above the ground, I saw a couple baseballs with alternate stitching. While I passed on one of them due to not being able to make out any markings on the ball, I left with this one

Being interested in vintage PCL, I'm very happy.

Grant

I was there this weekend and found some really cool stuff (mostly non-sports) but sad I missed that one. Cool pickup and one of the only single's I have ever seen.

Thanks. I'm glad you found some good stuff. This turned out to be the only thing I found. It was a pretty good show, but I just haven't had a strong focus on anything in particular, generally just old local baseball. So normally I leave empty handed.

Do you know how I might date the ball? Duster Mails played in the PCL between the early 20s and early 30s, so I'd imagine it's from sometime in there, but I'm not familiar enough with these balls to know what to look for.

From my experience with Mails, he signed with that moniker and was widely known by that nickname during the early to mid 1930's. Right about that same time he was included in the Pebble Beach Clothiers postcard set and has been seen signed with that nickname...

All that being said, he was using that nickname for himself as early as 1924 as his set of game cards (WG7) uses that name on the front of the box... "Great Mails Baseball Game"
