Default Opinions on authenticity of PSA 5 '33 Goudey Gehrig selling on eBay

There are a few issues with the card that I see both on the front and back, but I wanted to get some educated opinions before going into further detail. Here's a link to the eBay auction:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-Goudey...gAAOSw5utaY4Vh

Also, does anyone see potential issues with the flip?

I was hoping someone would post about this.

Cons:

The flip has a font that doesn’t look right. The red bar on the bottom is aligned with the blue, when it’s usually misaligned.

On the pro side, the bat extends into the border. And it looks like you can see the ink through the back.

But I know there are more educated dudes here whose opinion I’m anxious to hear.

since you alluded to it but had a different take, one of the issues i see is that the "bleed through" of red from front to back is not aligned with the centering of the red on the front. look at how off center the red is on the back versus the close to perfect centering on the front.

also, look at 3 and 4 from this link (links to an image of a real gehrig and shows differentiating features of real vs counterfeits) to see a couple of other potential issues: https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/...g&action=click

Ink bleeding on the back is consistent with legit, but the front looks off....maybe bleached? My guess is this card is real, but has been treated with something. Also, the print on the flip is really crooked. I don't recall ever noticing it that bad on other flips I've seen.

Maybe it's just the scan, or I am seeing things, but doesn't it look like there's a thin line where the left border meets the blue background? That shouldn't be there on an authentic card, no?

And you are right, James, about the #4 section looking funky on this card. Typically the Red will extend out a bit to the right, but on this eBay card the red is perfectly aligned.

Great eye on that border. I really don't like the flip at all.
Can't find a sale with this cert via VCP for 8 years.

Font size on flip looks too big, type face style also wrong. Looks funky.

The red box on back could be explained by it being a wet sheet transfer where the sheets weren't laid exactly on top of each other. If it is bleedthrough, it's not in the same location.
The black line border is the first thing I noticed when looking at it. I vote fake as well, in a fake holder. Does the bar code register properly?

Edit: I also reported it to eBay and linked this thread.

For what its worth the cert number checks out with PSA. Does appear to be a very old flip... Would be nice if PSA would drop the date of the cert on their websit...I vote for a "treated" card...

The lined border is totally not right. That should be the first telltale sign the card is bad.

I'm not an expert but to me the card looks ok. Seller is over 5K at 100% on the FB. Did anyone check the PSA cert number? I have a feeling it's good.

Please check out the lined border on the left side of the card (between the blue and the white - on the left front).....an authentic card won't look like that.

No, we're saying PSA didn't slab this card. Some guy in a basement did. Edges have high levels of frosting which shows resealing probably happened.

It is a fake. Wet sheet transfer is pretty good though.

Seller may be innocent/ignorant victim himself, judging by his feedback and inventory it doesn't smell like an intentional scam

There also seems to be a black border to the left and right of the red, which is not there in a good example. And the right border of the red not extending a bit further is a dead giveaway to me.

On top of everything else already stated, those white borders (more specifically the right side) look way to white when compared to any legit Goudeys I've owned or seen.

The guy responded to me and said he'll take it down and get PSA to verify it, we'll see if he does. He first admitted to send it to PSA a while ago, but now will have PSA check it out. Judge Judy said it best "You don't have to have a good memory if you tell the truth"

Should we look at his Ruth while we're at it?

If Ruth or his Flip are fake they are FAR superior. I think it's fine.

I can't say that his response inspires confidence although the rest of what he's selling appears authentic. The Gehrig looks like it came from the same batch of fake cards that originated in Mexico and were disseminated widely on Craigslist.

I thought the same thing but then looked at the whole picture. I briefly alluded to the fact there is a fraudulent enterprise that is masterminded, south of the border, that do these kinds of things.
