Default Auction House Recommendations?

Hi All,

I'm looking for some recommendations on auction houses that have good reputations. I'm considering consigning a PSA/DNA-certified autographed baseball and I want to make sure that I deal with a company that has a good history. Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Jeff

There are a few very reputable auction houses, but I think that recommendations may vary depending on the autograph(s) on the ball, if you care to share that information and/or pictures.

Sure, it's a Thurman Munson ball, autographed in 1977 and has been in my possession ever since.

FYI, Huggins and Scott has recently handled at least a couple of these with JSA certs. I've never consigned with them but as a buyer have always been happy with there service.

Most recently, ended 01/27/2010, @$1400 but faded: http://www.hugginsandscott.com/cgi-b...l?itemid=29031

Ended 09/2010, @$5500 (Lot 250):http://www.hugginsandscott.com/pdf/S...20realized.pdf

Ended 12/01/2010, @ $2000 (Lot 326): http://www.hugginsandscott.com/pdf/N...20realized.pdf

I second that Huggins and Scott is a good auction house. Good reputation, sells a lot of quality baseball autographs. I've won items from them and had no troubles.

Lelands.com is another good place. I've bought bought and consigned items with them, and they are well known nationally.

Hunt's, Lelands, or Huggins and Scott would all do you well on this ball.

Default Consignment question

I was about to start a new post but saw this thread. I have 7 slabbed psa autos which I am going to consign (some of which I have listed in the BST on this forum). I was offered a pretty good consignment rate by one of the houses discussed above, but was offered lower rate from sportscardlink.com. I'd obviously love to keep more money in my pocket, but I'm also concerned about these items not getting enough traction with the newer house. Any thoughts?

Thought I'd throw the Heritage hat into the ring--at the very least, we're always available for free valuations. We auctioned this personalized Munson back in April for $2270.

Default Munson Single Signed Ball

Thought I would throw our hat in as well. Obviously condition is everything but we have sold high grade examples for prices ranging from $9,000 (PSA7 in our 2009 Live Auction) to $11,000 (PSA 8)

We have auctions every 3 months including a 2,000+ event that goes on line for preview this Wednesday.

The good thing is all the Auction Houses mentioned will do a great job for you.

Best of luck in your decision.

Default Oh one more thing...

...make sure whomever sells it knows the provenance that it has been in your possession since it was signed...collectors love to know this especially if you know the special circumstances in which it was signed (if you know).

Coach's Corner...Just kidding...

Cant go wrong with any of the sites that these foremost Gentlemen have stated. I like Hunts myself, as a buyer, but as a seller I would say H.S., Legendary, and Lelands is about to start their spring auction so that may be a viable sollution for you as well.

I also would recommend the great people at Hunt Auctions. But the No. 1 auction house in the world for this type of material is Robert Edward Auctions. Lifson's reputation is impeccable. Only one auction per year, but I believe you can get cash advances.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Has anyone dealt with REA as a Consignor? I've read some positive articles, but haven't heard anything from someone with first-hand experience.

The best! They'll often work with you on the % commission, pay you almost immediately after the auction, and provide the best exposure within the hobby.

Cream of the crop all the way.... the only concern might be the sheer number of "competing" items that are equally amazing (and could possibly dilute the market a bit). I would ask them if your piece would be up against any other Munson singles or even multi-signed balls. Other than that, no worries with REA.

BTW... are they still accepting consignments, or is it now closed off? Anybody here know their official cut-off date?

Today was the last day. I drove my items 175 miles to REA just to be able to get them in by closing. Met with Rob and his staff who were very helpful and informative. Can't wait for April!
