I am new to the "vintage" collector seen as I used to only collected cards from the 1950's (spent most of my high school and college years working on a signed 1957 set which I am getting close to finishing). I love the few T206 cards but trying to complete a set might be too much of a challenge for me but was thinking about trying for a M116. I wanted to get people's thoughts on that particular set. Everyone seems to talk about T206 but no one really talks about this set. Does anyone on the board collect them? Anyone completed a set?

This is a very difficult set with many shortprinted cards, and a couple (Bates Cincinnati, Seymour Baltimore) where only 1 or a couple examples are known to exist. You should see the article by Tim Newcomb in an upcoming issue of Old Cardboard magazine.

The article should be in the next issue of Old Cardboard.

If you use the "search" function just above the posts, you'll see there have been a good many posts on M116 over the years-- there is definitely interest, and I can think of three or four near-complete sets among regulars on the board.

Tim N.,my ole Davidson bro.
I am very eager to see your article and see if it measures up to
Tony Abbott's and Gil Holland's standards. happy.gif
I must say that i have really been captivated by the M116s lately and
absolutely love the Jennings 300 Subjects PSA 7 which I recently won from Sloate's
auction and the Bransfield and Crandall, both 6s, which I just acquired from Mark
Turner. I am getting them framed for the wall pronto.
Although, I'm still a 206 man, I say to the initial inquirer,'go for the
M116s'!!!
all the best,
barry

It would be realistic to put together a comprehensive group, say about 200, but you will reach a wall at some point. Completing it would be difficult and expensive.

Let's say that I can't wait for the article and I don't subscribe to Old Cardboard because I'm cheap....let's just suppose. and maybe I completed a couple other team sets of a certain team and maybe I might be looking for another goal sometime soon...perhaps

Which cards are the most scarce?

Making which team sets the most difficult?

The Cubs are impossible. They only made one of each.
