Default Show off your best Under-Graded 2's & 3's

A few days ago there was a lengthy thread about a T206 green Cobb PSA 3 that sold for a record price. While there were differing opinions on whether the price made sense, there was near unanimous agreement that the card is gorgeous and looks much better than the 3 given to it by PSA. So, with that in mind, lets see some low "graded" cards that appear much nice than their grades - by no means limited to T206s.

Below is my Magie Error PSA 3. There is a light crease in the bottom right, but man the card looks great, and in my opinion, should at least be 3.5 (for eye appeal), although I suppose the technical grade is accurate.

Anything with paper loss automatically puts it at a one, but I've always thought if it was on the back and the front still looked great, it should be noted or graded as such, but I suppose that is opening a whole new can of worms?

Likely the stain for sure but like I said above.

Is there paper loss or a stain in the lower left corner?

Either way, I'd have no trouble owning any of these cards.

Default Ernie Banks Rookie

PSA 2 because of a piece of tape residue on back. I bought it raw about 8 years ago and I didn't think that it would hurt the grade too bad. Still a great card regardless!!!

Default EPDG Chase

Yes it's the mark on the back but the corners are nice and no creases.

One of my favorite cards.

I'm guessing it gets a 4(mk)-5(mk) from PSA

Kendallcat's mantle is my favorite mantle 3 ever. I always loved that card when he's shown it in the past. That Plank is ridiculous. The red Cobb is insane for a 2. Jeff's Cobb is, well, my avitar, so I am obviously a fan. The Hindu Cy Young is crazy. These are some of the best cards posted in one thread I have seen in a while.

Cool thread idea Ryan. These are my favorite types of cards. Here are a few of mine. Only a couple of these are actually under-graded, but they all have pretty nice eye appeal for the grade.

Default Cobb

I bought this about 2 years ago before Cobb T206's skyrocket in price. It was on ebay from a seller with very little feedback and a cell phone taken picture. I thought the card looked nicer than a 2.5 . Under a loop you can see a hairline crease across the card under Cobb's chin . It is a Polar Bear back and has a small tobacco stain on the front as you see in the scan. If you got a crease ( even a hairline one ) across the card PSA is tough. I am still thinking of sending it in for a review in hopes of getting bumped to a 3.

Default Creaseless Johnson

I don't have a lot of graded cards, but I think this one qualifies...my scanner doesn't do graded cards very well, but this is a Factory 42. No creases, sharp corners, slight fading and toning on back.

Default A few that fit the bill...

This one's not a 3, though the gap between tech grade and eye appeal grade I think makes it relevant:

These two are certainly accurately graded, just find the eye appeal in hand transcends the grade...

Already showed this in a recent thread, but I can't understand why SGC graded it so harshly.

Luke,
It looks like your Stahl Piedmont Factory 42 could have come from the
same sheet as this SGC example, they both have the same miscut.

Stahl PD 42 PSA.jpgStahl PD 42 PSA Back.jpg
Stahl PD 42.jpgStahl PD 42 Back.jpg

(P.S. I did start to collect some scans)

Pat,

Good eye, I think you're right! The SGC has really nice colors too, which is the main reason I wanted my copy (besides the obvious main reason )

Ben and Justin - I love the E95 and green T206 Cobbs --- and a lot of the other cards in this thread.

I dig high eye-appeal 2s and 3s so I have several that I think belong here even if some may not technically be under graded.

I like this thread so hopefully this can keep it going. I know its not pre-war but it fits the category. It has two tape marks on the reverse but doesn't affect the text. Tough to find perfect centering.

great thread and great cards! Here's a few of mine. The Youngs is actually a 1921 Koester's Bread.
