Default Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?

Posted By: barrysloate

Okay- I know I am setting myself up for endless humiliation and ridicule, and I know every wise guy is going to come up with some clever comment, but that said...

Would anyone like to get together for a dinner in NY one night? On the strength of our recent meeting, I think we could get it done. Everyone got along great, nobody drew a switchblade (okay, so maybe we did get cut up a little) but at the end of the meeting we all emerged unscathed.

The key is to pick a place and a date and go with it. We don't need everybody to suggest their five favorite steakhouses. We need a few suggestions, a time, and then we'll just get together for a good time. Let's all be good boys and girls and see if we can accomplish this. I'll help coordinate, but perhaps somebody wants to suggest the venue.

i am all for it...thanks barry. give me a day or so (i am out of town this weekend), to get some ideas together.

MS

p.s. i really don't want to hear sh*t from anybody about this, unless they have constructive input, and i would go as far as requesting to Leon, that if people do post dumb comments, to delete them.

Thanks Michael for the strong support, and I look forward to getting together with you again. But I can take a few jabs, I'm thick skinned.

Barry - my suggestion is that you set the place and the time. Those that can make it will do so. Leaving it open sets you up for more suggestions and discussion than you are likely to want. Living in Virginia I'm not likely to be there but that's my 2 cents anyway. However if you're ever down in the Williamsburg area I'll set up a lunch/dinner etc....

if it is during the week... I am in. On the weekend, I have to check with my better half.

Mark's suggestion is a good one. Barry you pick the date / time / place - and see who can make it.

I would make the choice, but because I live in a section of Brooklyn that is so rich in good and affordable restaurants- the street two blocks from me is known as "Restaurant Row" (Smith Street)- we almost always eat in Brooklyn and rarely go into Manhattan for dinner anymore. So I think there are Manhattanites who know the good places better than I do. And I don't think it's realistic to have it in Brooklyn, unless some steak eaters want to do the Peter Luger's route, or simply come into my Cobble Hill neighborhood where I know an endless number of great places.

Michael- you seem to know the city better than I do. Why don't we go along the lines of something casual, not too loud, where we can enjoy some conversation and just have a nice evening. It doesn't have to be a four star restaurant, just a place to relax and have a good time.

Payard restaurant

Lexington bet 73 and 74.

Has big tables, relatively quiet, not cramped.

Jeff- sounds fine with me, I'm game, and I trust you will be joining us?

Do you know what kind of food they serve? Weeknight is good if that works better for most.

I can make it during the week after next.

Payard is a French bistro but they serve a good steak. The place is pretty mellow upstairs and I've sat at a big table. I think we should see how many we can get together for a dinner and then make a plan. So far it's Mike, Barry and me. Hopefully Jim and Bruce can join us and a few others.

The week after next is fine, the restaurant sounds good, and I'm in. I'll wait for somebody to just pick a day and time (early might work well for most). Let's also see how many want to join us. Do we need a reservation?

I think once you've got 6 or more people a reservation should be made. So far we have Frank, Mike, Barry, Joe and me for a weeknight at Payard.

Why don't we say anybody who wants to join us has to let Jeff know by a certain day so he can make a reservation if necessary. Jeff, I'll let you figure that deadline. It's likely we will get at least one more.

Just curious if anyone has noticed...but this dinner is nearing resolution and we are under 20 posts without any strife.

Feb 7 is fine for me.

Hi Barry.. everyone,
I just moved to NYC and should be able to make the dinner if there is room for one more.

Barry, I'll shoot you an e-mail a little later to confirm.

Jeff- the #4 doesn't go to 68th Street. The 4 and 5 go to 59th, and then you have to switch to the 6, which stops at 68th (Hunter College) and 77th.

Decided it would be best to bump this back up.

So far Jeff L., Joe D., and Barry S. (not using last names to protect the innocent) are in for Feb 7 dinner. Jeff needs to know fairly soon who is definitely in, and we could all use the exact address of the restaurant. I believe we agreed on 6:00 PM, assuming we can secure that time. Please post on this thread if you would like to come. Everyone is invited.
