I thought I'd move this thread about a BST postcard over to the memorabilia side -- http://www.network54.com/Forum/376259/thread/1217859055/last-1217871181/1907+Detroit+Tigers+team+real+photo+postcard+SOLD% 21%21%21 -- and ask if there are any postcards with interesting content to share.

This one's message refers to the first tie game in World Series history. It's postmarked from the World Series in 1907:

The message reads: "Hello Nick. 12 inning tie. The Cubs are all right."

Indeed, in the opening game of the World Series, the contest was halted after twelve innings due to darkness. Score: Cubs 3, Tigers 3.

Talk about the luck of the Irish. Here's one from a pretty decent outfielder whose last name was Meusel (note the sig on the back; it's from his mid-teens Pacific Coast League days with Los Angeles) (ps - Robert, please email me when you get a chance):

Addressee is James Byrnes who was a member of the 1906 Philadelphia A's appearing in just 10 games. That was his only major league season and he went West and played several years in the PCL appearing on both the 1909 and 1911 Obak cards. Sender unknown.

Here's a rppc of Jim Viox, the Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman from 1912-16. Note the notecard from his wife that accompanied it.

Hey Brian,

Love the Viox!! He is sort of a "hometown hero" since he came back to Lexington KY and managed the local boys after his big league career was over. He was very beloved as a player here and as a manager. I have always wanted to see more photos of him, but not too many around. That is a super postcard! I hope to get his T-210 card someday, but they are a bit scarce.

Shawn

Robert,

Man, I would love to buy that Scott PC! I hope you will continue to enjoy it as much as I envy you for owning it!

PREDICTION IN MAY 1910: "Note the difference in the positions and percent of Cards-Bums. Phila. will win the American League Pennant."

OCTOBER FACT: Philadelphia did win the pennant and beat the Cubs 4-1 in the Series.

PREDICTION IN SEPTEMBER 1907: "World's Champions 1907; just keep an eye on Donovan."

OCTOBER FACT: The Tigers lost the Series 4-0-1 to the Cubs. Bad Tigers hitting couldn't get Donovan wins.

Nebraska Indians postcard sent from Dan Tobey - more famous for his boxing ring announcing he did later in life...elected to the Boxing Hall of Fame. The card was sent to Luke Wagner, Honus' Brother who apparently also went by the nickname "Dutch". I have never seen another signature for Dan Tobey. The letter is kind of hard to read, but Tobey is appealing to Wagner to join the Nebraska Indians team.

Bill Carrigan
William Francis Carrigan (Rough) Born October 22, 1883 in Lewiston, ME
Died July 8, 1969 in Lewiston, ME

Unfortunately Boston came in second in 1914 but did go on to win the 1915 and 1916 World Series.

Most of you have seen this before but from what I can gather, this 1906 V. O. Harmon postcard (which is postmarked between the end of the pennant race and the start of the 1906 World Series between the underdog White Sox and the Cubs) was sent by Anna Busch (nee Anna Anheuser, sister-in-law of Adolphus Busch and daughter of Eberhard Anhauser) to her niece Nellie Anheuser. It reads " These are what all Chicago is raving about" Anna. It seems the Anheuser-Busch families may have had a long standing interest in baseball before the family's purchase of the St. Louis Cardinals.

The back of this pc is better than the front, and that's saying something given that the front shows Jackson, McMullen, and the rest. It was postmarked on the day of Game 2 of the 1919 World Series and reads, "The Reds are my boys! It looks as if these fellows were snowed under. Will see them perform here the next three days as I was lucky enough to get a reserved seat." The sender had no idea of the history he was watching unfold. An unused copy would be much less desirable than one with this provenance.

"Ed" wouldn't be Eddie Cicotte, would it?

Wow... that 1919 Chisox is one great postcard. If there was a Postcard Hall of Fame, this one would be a first ballot inductee! Thanks for a great post.
