As long as they are authentic and in any kind of halfway decent condition, I would say that you did pretty well for yourself.

Care to post some scans?

At around $10/card, with a bunch of HOFs and Southern Leaguers, even if they are all ripped in half, you got a great deal !!!

Wild guess says you are out $750 as they are fake.....just a guess though...Hope I am wrong. If they are real you did well.

Congrats,
A very good deal if authentic.. try to post some scans of a few fronts and backs. Most likely will be able to tell right away if they athentic by having some pictures of them.

2 cards you have there could be extremely valuable:

doyle, ny natl - depending on which doyle.. if it's blue and his hands are up above his head you just hit the lottery.

o'hara, st. louis - one concern on this is you have it with a piedmont back which isn't possible.. should be a polar bear back

try to post some scans of these two and a few others so some board members can have a look.

Kris

Default out 750

I'd have to agree that it is very unlikely that these are authentic. I responded to a Craigslist post recently and all of the cards were reproductions. Post a scan/photo of a few and we can let you know for sure.

I was halfway expecting non-sarcastic responses, but we can't all win can we?

If I made a bad buy, I made a bad buy, tell me no need to try and insinuate me as dumb, I told you I knew nothing on the subject already.

I agree with him, not all of us are experts , we collect for the fun of it as a hobby. Making a joke out of somebody doesn't show any respect in fellow collectors.

If he wanted non sarcasm he would have posted at least some pics.
He wanted a hearty pat on the back for a great find.

Good job buddy
Get em graded and there's a slew of guys that will help you make a nice return on that 750.
I honestly hope theyre all good and that they come back as 2s and 3s so I can buy them

Or someone is disabled (Because their car got hit by a bus) and can't get pictures until someone comes over next Monday.

You got me!

Sean,
There are many board members who have vast knowledge and are very helpful, unfortunately it seems there are more who have the mentality of 10 year olds, i know it is frustrating but in general it is best to ignore the insecure who have nothing better to do than throw thier two cents in whenever they can when it has no bearing on the topic. some feel the more posts they make here will give them some sort of stature. easiest thing to do is block them.

One easy way to tell without seeing scans is the backs, alot of fakes will have the wrong ink color on the backs, example : piedmont backs printed in red ink when they should be blue, etc How ever there are also many that have correct coloring. Take a look on ebay at graded cards with good pics you can zoom in on and compare.

Kris

Not sensitive, couldn't care less, just telling idiots that there might be a hidden reason someone can't do something. Lots of card collectors are cynical bastards.

I think all the replies you got were honest. The majority think you got a good deal IF they are authentic. However, because one of the front/back combo's isn't possible and because MOST "too good to be true" deals aren't good at all, we are requesting scans so we can help you determine if they are real or fake. We all wish you the best, no need to start calling people (whom you are asking for help) idiots and bastards.

Not calling out the people that helped, calling out the idiots who have to toot their horn about anything that doesn't pertain to "You did well if authentic" I got the idea

one thing i would like to add was that he was looking for experts to see if he got a good deal or not...he did not say hey i am an expert look at the great loot i got.....i think some people are acting as if he knew what he got and was trying to show off..if he knew he would not be asking for help he would say look at my pull!!! in your face..or something like that.

Default was there cards here to talk about?

this isnt the Kardashians.

WHen you get a chance to post some pics, please do so for the board enjoyment. I dont sell carpet over the phone either, one has to see. Say your scanner is down or that you'll get them up in a few days. Most that are giving you a hard time do not have money anyway. Better you then their wifes I guess.

How did you pay for them ? I was assuming you bought face to face so atleast maybe knew where the person lived. Good luck with it but not looking very good.

Yeah, not even delivered... I would have rather had 100 fake cards than nothing.

If you do get defrauded use it as an expensive learning lesson. Most of us older guys (I have a feeling you aren't very old) have had much worse learning lessons. Not that it helps you any but this situation wouldn't make my top 20 bad financial decisions. good luck...

Dare I ask you to start a new thread detailing "top bad financial decisions?" Would be interesting to see what everyone would admit to...

Sean, I have to admit that I also think you may have gotten taken here...It happens. We've all had our learning experiences in the hobby. Don't let it discourage your love for the hobby, keep your head up bro...

Now to Matt's proposal. I love the idea. Would Bo Jackson count as a "top bad financial decision"? All kidding aside, I imagine there would be some very interesting responses in a thread like that...

I think my worst would be buying an "autographed" card from a seller on ebay, who seemed to dealt with mostly Matchbox cars, and junk parts without pictures for anything. I thought I was just getting a steal from a guy who didn't know what he was doing. Boy was that an understatement.. Turns out the guy didn't know the difference between an autograph and a facsimile signature on a card... I got a simple "Are you sure? I thought it was signed" and a quick and easy refund.. Coincidentally, while I joke about the money I'd lost collecting Bo as a kid, this also happened to be a Bo Jackson card..
