Default 1940 Playball Tris Speaker question

Maybe old news to the Playball collectors, but the back of the 1940 Speaker card says 973 doubles in his career, when in fact, he hit 972 doubles.

It may have correct at the time: https://sabr.org/research/not-chisel...s-and-sabr-era.

The one I really don't understand is the 1933 Sport Kings claim that Babe Ruth hit 42 World Series home runs.
