Default Goudey (National Chicle) R311 Promo for Diamond Stars Wrappers- display

This looks to be a National Chicle R311 Promo for Diamond Stars Wrappers- display. The seller had it listed as Goudey but in retrospect it is National Chicle. Same question remains though....

Anyone seen something like this before? It looks like it was probably sent to a shop owner but never used. I think it would need a staple in the "band" which has the writing on it or the pictures would have fallen through the bottom. Although maybe there is something I am missing? I do believe it is period as the paper has a sort of clay'ish coating with nice patina on it.

Default no one?

No one has ever seen or heard of this kind of promo where something from Diamond Stars was redeemed for Goudey? I thought it was interesting. Maybe not though?

Maybe just a mistake in the listing? I thought R311s were Diamond Stars, and the packaging doesn't mention Goudey.

What's weird to me is how they skip around with the numbers listed, almost like they randomly picked which ones to include and did the package art as they picked them.

Default Interesting

Hi Leon, it sure looks like a period piece. The thing is that the numbers don't match up with anything. Diamond Stars were issued by National Chicle, but none of these numbers match up with the National Chicle Fine Pens numbers and there aren't any Diamond Stars issues in this format.

The numbers don't match up with any of the Goudey Wide Pen issues, so I'm not sure where these numbers are coming from. I thought maybe it had something to do with World Wide Gum but those don't match either.

They look like Fine Pens, but the fine pens don't include a Boston Team photo or a Yankees team photo.

Ok...I lose that bet. You CAN add.

On a different note, Old Cardboard has this verbiage on their site for R311s.

"Some R311 Glossy cards listed on Diamond Star Gum wrappers"

And lastly, correct amundo, the r311S are National Chicle and I changed the title. The original seller just made a mistake on that. It does seem that Diamond Stars was associated with National Chicle. More studying to do.....it's what keeps it fun!!

Default Goudey Called Some Premiums Diamond Stars

Goudey R303s were labeled as Diamond Stars on the backs. No relation to Diamond Stars cards.

See the backs here:

I lost mine as well - what's good for the goose apparently is NOT good for the gander.

Default R303's

Hi,
Let's talk about this a little more. I have attached scans of a R303-B. This is 4 1/4 x 7 1/4. Notice that the photos in Leons ebay purchase look more like 8 x 10's. In addition look at the thick letters on the R303 and compare them to the finer lines on the display.

Leon's display shows photos of Dykes and Traynor, who are not on the R303 checklists, and the R303's don't have any team photos.

Look like we are back to square one. Robert is correct in that the Diamond Stars isn't related to the 1936 Diamond Stars.
