I have heard estimates of 1000 each surviving (in all grade), though that seems a little much to me. I bought a trimmed and creased Demmit (thought at bad as it sounds from eye appear standpoint) for about $900 ($500/400) cash/trade. Hoping to find an Ohara for a similar cost. There are Oharas on Ebay now from $1250-6000, all of which seem a little rich for their grade. That said, they seem cheaper now than they were a few years ago.

The high priced BINs on eBay aren't selling, but when they go up for regular auction, they're selling for a lot less than their BIN prices (1/2 price?). A good example is a SGC 10 Demmitt that sold on eBay for $835 on March 17th (#170802667882).

That seems high to me given some of the recent prices, but I could be wrong.

This ran it's course some time ago...

I think 1000 of each is way too high of an estimate. Price is down on these because of the economy, because some folks who bought them were less of a collector and a bit of a speculator, and because some folks look at the white border set and decide that 518 is enough.

I would guess there are around 300 of each. Price of a poor example would really depend on eye-appeal, but generally would probably be in the $700-1200 range. A decent gd would probably be 1200-1600.

300-500 of each seems like a reasonable estimate....not that I've ever counted them. Just feels about right.

Price sounds about right if they are not terrible examples for the technical grades.

Here is thèse 2 cards
http://www.amerlegends.com/auction/t...77389-5275.jpg
http://www.amerlegends.com/auction/t...77387-5273.jpg

Since i am in canada, i must add 15percent in fee at the 2700$. So the final price for these cards for me will be 3100$$

I would say if you are buying for a long term investment more than 5 yrs then $2700 may not be bad. If you are looking for a flip or short term then wait till you get the deal you want. They come up seemingly often in auction houses. Hope you the best in your quest.

BTW I think you were smart in buying that Plank when you did. I may be wrong but I think Goodwin's Plank will drive the price of all of them up due to the publicity and even when it fades back down from the hype the card will retain a significant percent increase in value.

I have been looking at that OHara. I probably won't pull the trigger on it...but I have thought about it enough to where I can't say I would blame you if you did. There's another at auction on ebay at $1650 that has tempted me more...It's a GIA2 but seems to have a lot more eye appeal but will set you back and extra $500.

I need about 8 to finish my set of 518, I already have the Demmitt, I think I can wait for the right Ohara to come along. The $400 I save will go a long way to helping me upgrade my bat off Cobb.

Plank has been the one I have always wanted but i have never been in a position in 40 years of collecting to make a serious play for one. Wagner is just out of the question and honestly, I just am not that big of a fan of the Magie...it seems WAY closer in scarcity to the Ohara/Demmitt that the Plank to me...I have consigned one and know of two others that have come out of the local area in the last 20 years...it could just be a function of the fact that I live in Piedmont land and Polar Bears don't come up in lots that have their origin locally very often (Old Mills are the nest most frequent). Of course there are a lot of guys more knowlegeable than I on this board.

FWIW, I sold my SGC 20 O'Hara this past summer for $1,500.

I'd hold off on those two examples at $2,700.

At this point, you should just move down to New York -- American Legends (the seller of those Demmitt/O'Hara cards you shared) is a 15 minute drive from my house!

That same card could have gone for $950 a week before or after. I think I got it cheap, but another in about the same condition went unsold at an $899 starting price a week or two earlier, so who knows. It is not the greatest $835 Demmitt, but I've seen worse. My ceiling was $910 on it, but the scans were horrible, and I thought it might be an upgrade.

When you are dealing with 'poor', 'poor-fair', 'fair' and even 'good' graded cards with book values of $1000+, there are all sorts of ridiculous prices paid for equally ridiculous reasons, mostly involving buying the holder instead of the card, and there is also the 'flip' anomaly to consider: PSA 1's can be labelled 'poor' or 'poor-fair', depending on age. Some flip collectors will bid up a 'poor-fair' 1 that is uglier than a 'poor' 1, even though both are '1's.

Also, 'poor' can mean the dog chewed it up and spit it out, or it can be quite presentable. 'Good' can have a crease right through the player's eyeballs and often looks worse than a 'fair'.

But with this value of card, the flip game can work in the buyer's favor: I try to pay 'poor' flip prices for 'poor' graded cards that have good eye appeal.

So for you 2700$ + 400 in custom fee for these card are too high?

I really like dealing with that seller, so hate to push a customer away from him, but $3,100 seems like a lot to me. On the other hand, if I didn't have both of those cards, I might make him an offer and use them as fillers until I could find better.

Did anyone here pluck the Ohara off ebay yesterday? It was not a bad looking low grade card. I bid up to the most I thought it was worth and didn't get it, so I can live with it fine.
