Default Question about inexpensive web site hosts for collection...

Posted By: Dave F

I've grown pretty tired of photobucket as for trying to display for myself my collection...I have though about imageevent, but for that $25 a year is it worth it? Anyone else have suggestions? I know this has been discussed before...but thought i'd try now and see what anyone thinks..I don't really want to spend over $25

Mark,
Yeah that is a nice layout and kind of what I have in mind...just not sure if you can make it look like that at the $25 a year or if you have to do the premium package at $65 a year...which I'm not really looking to spend.

I think it's worth it, Dave. Once you sell a few hundred bucks worth of cards through an imageevent site instead of eBay, it's already paid for itself. Even if you don't sell, I think the site provides me with $25 worth of enjoyment each year. It just looks so much cleaner than the free sites like photobucket.

I use freewebs. I paid $12 for one year to not have any advertising on the site. I've been told by others that I must have gotten a great deal because it's more than that now. But you can still get a free website from them, but there will be an ad at the top of each page.

Here is my site...I don't spend a lot of time working on it, but I've seen other posters here with Freeweb sites that have some great looking sites.

Earthlink has been my email account for over ten years and I get free web space as part of my normal email account. The space they provide is more than enough for my purposes. I still have to do all the web design, uploading, etc with my own software, but the space is free.

I think ImageEvent has a free trial period. I tried it and liked it enough to sign up for good.

Default Question about inexpensive web site hosts for collection...

....was put together by my wife for me for a Christmas present. She purchased the domain name, but the website itself was free as part of our Verizon FIOS account. As I started to add huge audio files and tons of images, I ran out of space and we purchased more, but it was really inexpensive -- and we got so much space that my wife built another website dedicated to our kids. So we're a dual-website family now.

and I pay like $50 per year or thereabouts, I think...for me, it's worth it, because I derive alot of enjoyment from creating the site itself. and it's basically how I look at my cards now, since almost all are now at the bank

plus I like to write a bit...it's all about whatever floats your particular boat, really

I'm here, created and hosted with Freewebs:
http://www.thetriple-l.com/

note: I already had paid for a separate domain name, but you need not do that

I like imageevent. My site is at:

http://imageevent.com/uffda51

There are quite a few ways to customize with color, spacing, etc., and when I go to post a photo here I can easily choose the size of the image from several options. You can choose to prevent people from downloading your jpgs if you like.

The Premium package ($25) allows up to 1500 images and I'm at 833 so far. I doubt if I will need to go past 1000. I've had zero technical issues.

I think its a good value for $25.

Count me as another vote for imageevent as well. I have the unlimited space account, and it's certainly worth it. They've just made improvements to the ftp uploading so it's even faster and easier to upload a lot of images at once.

Free to put your stuff here:

http://www.internetville.com/museum/

Then later on if you want to see just your stuff - it is as simple as clicking the search button (far right) and then clicking on your name in the list.

Here is the 'jacklitsch' collection in the museum:

http://www.internetville.com/museum/thumbnails.php?album=search&search=jacklitsch

(two pages of great contributions... thanks Steve M.)

I encourage everyone to use it.
