Default Does anyone have a nice, clean photo of a turn of the century Cardinal logo?

I'm looking for a clear Cardinals logo from the era around 1910. This is the interlocking STL that I am looking for. I'm not sure if they had pennants back then that would have it or just an old photo. Please let me know if you can help me. Thanks!

Chris

Bresnahan photo would be 1909 - 1912. I believe the logo was the same from about 1909 - 1916

Mike:

That's a very nifty site... thanks for posting that link! There are a few inconsistencies as far as mistaken logos/years and overlaps, but very cool none the less...

Awesome photos, Mark! Are they yours?

As far as the logo goes I was under the (apparently faulty) impression that the logos of the day were more than likely felt patches. That picture appears to confirm an embroidered logo. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

There were both logo patches (mostly on sleeves) and logos that were embroidered directly on to the uniform or cap. The latter was much more common, as evidenced in the photo posted above...

You guys are full of great information! Thank you! One last question: was the Cardinal red of 1910 the same as the Cardinal red today? Or was it a different shade?

It was perhaps a bit more burgundy-toned. Still in the spectrum of red, but with a burgundy tint. The logo of today is just a flat-out brash red... the color back then was deeper and richer.

The best comparison I can make is a red rose (which has burgundy tones) vs. a stop sign (which is a straight red). Hope this helps....

Looks embroidered to me.

The photos come from the online Library of Congress George Bain collection that has over 2000 early baseball images.

Search on "baseball" for all of them. You can search for specific players, teams (St. Louis NL), etc.
