Default eBay is a joke

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dan-Brouthe...gAAOSwCN5dugaK

This is ridiculous! There has to be some sort of legal action against eBay for continuing to allow this nonsense. Who is actually dumb enough to bid?!?!?!

Obvious, massive scuff marks on the ball to remove marks that could date it and a bogus COA from a deceased hobby/sports figure.

You don't even need to look at the signature to know it's almost certainly fake.

Yes, but only a video here and there.

Some will be on GFA and Stephen Rocchi, and I'll be posting some on the forged/counterfeit cards.

Thanks, Fudd.

It was Fudd that nicknamed me Fonzie.

Love it.

And in case anyone wants a bunch of cards all signed by the same person (and not the player on the cards), today is your lucky day:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-Tom-Se...2284%7Ciid%3A1

I tried to ask the seller a question, but it seems like he's blocked that option. This is really bad stuff, not even close.

I think this is the same guy who sells/sold all the fake DiMaggio stuff and was interviewed on one of the major networks on it and couldn't tell them anything about who, what and where items he sells were signed or obtained....

eBay has now had 20+ years with an ironclad grip on the pulse of the sportcards and collectibles market, and they have basically done very little with it. They had plenty of time to grow with the collectors using their services, to become subject matter experts, and to establish practices and procedures which would have led to a greater weeding-out of this type of crap still seen today, but they never been able to be bothered with it. Instead now, in 2019 we are still forced to adhere such hobby-specific description nomenclature into listings such as whether a card is "Very Good" or "Like New", oh and don't forget to put which team Brooks Robinson played for on your listing now or we will shut you down. Can't have that. Ridiculous forgeries? Oh that's fine all day long, but...

The almost complete lack of attention / failure to do anything which might remotely qualify as catering to a hobby / industry which has made eBay untold millions of dollars by this point is just...a bit baffling to me.

That's insane - Mel Allen then immediately signed the LOA in the same pen after he forged the Brouthers ball! Oy vey.

Very Short sided for the crooked company. I hope they go out of business, but people are way too stupid for that. They will never change.

People have to stop it if they don't like it. I admit, I go up and down with those jack holes. I stay away for stretches and then the easiness sets in and I lose my moral compass. I too am too stupid to stay away. At least I try

Perhaps the greatest thing about this is that the fool used the wrong exemplar to forge his Hal Chase! To my eye, he was clearly looking at a signature of the 1940s low-level minor leaguer of the same name! It might help to know the difference.

(By the way, the other man of the same name had a signature that was strikingly similar to Prince Hal's in many parts of its formation. It's fooled people on a couple of occasions. It bares such a close resemblance in certain places that many may disagree with my assessment that the forger was using an example of "the other" Hal Chase as his template. Thankfully, the younger man's career was so brief that I can only recall seeing two examples of his autograph. Years ago, there used to exist a 1942 Utica Braves team-signed ball with the younger Chase which somebody purchased at auction under the guise of it being a bona fide Prince Hal autograph. They then had somebody paint over the other signatures on the ball to give it the appearance of a single-signed Chase. Good job to all involved! )

I'm so thankful for this website and the search function. Even doing the slightest bit of investigation reaps rewards.
