Default an N54 museum - what do you think?

Posted By: Joe D.

I am a little bored with my website that shows my collection.....

http://www.internetville.com/images/

so I had an idea... turn the site into an N54 museum showing many of the great cards and collectibles of fellow N54ers.

I think an N54 Museum would be a cool site to visit.

I am not too savvy when it comes to site building... but if I had some volunteers to help as admins (or I was given a lot of time) I think it could be done.

Maybe limit it to 10 submissions per N54er? We create a bunch of 'galleries', like E cards, T Cards, Postcards, etc.?
(whatever is preferred)

I started a new section of my site, and I don't mind making it the default home-page.

http://www.internetville.com/museum/

What to you think?

(something tells me I am asking for trouble with this one?... but I do think it could be cool)

All opinions appreciated.

I like the idea - though something similar was offered in the past, and as you might guess, no one could reach a consensus as to what would be included, who would select, etc.

Those issues don't sound to bad....

Limit 10 items per N54er (any items you want).

I will offer my webspace hosting / so no worries there.

How about this....
anyone interested - email me your five favorites in your collection.

I will get it started as best I can, and hope it snowballs.

Why not make it a "type card" museum? Limit each participant to five submissions. No duplication. Include cards, cabinets, postcards, pins, photos but no memorabilia. So if someone is the first to submit an e93 that's it. Encourage best examples.

If you make it a typecard museum isn't that basically the same thing you get with the Old Cardboard website?

10 or even 5 submissions sounds like alot to filter through. How about anyone interested is allowed to submit 3 cards (postcards, etc) by the 15th of the month. Everyone's card will then be put in a poll (provided Leon doesn't mind doing it..or someone else that can do that) the cards are then voted on for a week or two week period by all the board members.....and either the top 10 or maybe top 15 items with total popular votes are put into the "Hall"......it can be done every month, or every two months...whatever....just my dumb idea

and thanks to any participants.

I will be working on making this look presentable this weekend.

Keep the submissions coming.... and the Museum is on its way!

Send me a link or email images.

Limit it to 5 per N54er (whatever your five favorites are).

Dan -

this is not intended to be an all inclusive look at all type cards like Old Cardboard.

rather an actual Museum of specifically owned favorites.

Yep, I tired this years ago when I first came here, even offered to make a new site and host all the images and maintain. All I needed was good to high quality scans emailed to me, I would either give reference to the collection of origin, or say from private collection.

Josh is right about 70 posts in it just died….still love the idea and would offer the same again if it can be done????

I have a handfull of people who submitted....

so the museum will now be 25 images strong.

Hopefully it will snowball into something much bigger.

Please submit yours as well!
joe@internetville.com

I will be working on it this weekend - and will put them all here.

http://www.internetville.com/museum/

no need for you to host.... but if you want to help as in the site development / admin - that would be great - just email me (its all menu driven... coppermine gallery).

Hopefully we can revive this good idea.

edited to clean up and add.

This sounds like a great idea.

Maybe I'm the only one who may think so, but wouldn't a quality memorabilia section be a nice aspect as well? What could it hurt? If you don't like looking at quality memorabilia, or for whatever reason it seems to offend you, just don't open up that section.

For those who do like it, it's there. There certainly are some nice pieces out there and they give you another dimension of what collectors on here collect besides cards.

It also gives you a broader spectrum of what I think this hobby is supposed to be about anyway...i.e. the history of baseball. There's more to it than just cards and photographs as someone suggested in an earlier post.

Just my opinion.

Greg

2 of the 5 items I submitted may be more properly characterized as "memoribilia". Sorry for the suggestion above to exclude this catagory.

Edited to say "It's up and running and beautiful. Nice job Joe. Bookmark it boys and girls.

its "under construction"

I will add categories making it easier to navigate...
and look into whatever else I can do to make it better.

It may change each time you check it this weekend.

Please keep the submissions coming.
When submitting... a title of each piece is helpful
and if you want to suggest a category thats cool too.

If you have a preference of your name in the 'keywords' for an image -
please pass that along.

and if you want to be anonymous thats fine too.

I am putting the name of the submitter in as a keyword for each image.
This is great for the 'search' feature.... so you can search for yours or anyone elses submissions.

Still working out the kinks.... please be patient.

sorry for the bump, I won't do it for every little thing, but....

Just a quick update / change to the museum.

Going with a great suggestion from an N54er,
I created an "Autographed Cards" section in the Museum.

Even if you have submitted other cards already - if you have autographed vintage cards to submit - just send me an email and I will upload them.

71 images submitted and uploaded so far.

Its looking cool. Thanks.

I am going to let this museum morph into whatever everyone makes it.

I would suggest that the ethnic cards stay within their respective categories... but when uploaded... information be put in either the keywords such as "jewish" or "cuban".

When using the search feature you would then just be able to click on the "cuban" in the keyword list and blammo there are all of the items.

I am testing a great new feature for the museum that I think should make it more robust.

Individual user names and IDs.

This would allow anyone to upload items to the museum, and delete their own items when they see fit.

individual user name / id also allows for other features such as rating the items that are already on the museum.

If anyone wants to help me test this new feature by getting a user name and ID, just email me and I will set you up with an account and will give you other info about how to upload images.

Hope everyone is enjoying this.

Regards,
Joe

Edit to say.... no longer restricted to just 5 submissions. If you have others that you want to submit... send me an email and I will send you a user name and password so that you can upload and maintain your own submissions as well as 'rate' (from 1 star to 5 stars) any of the images in the museum.

(and thanks for the bump by the way)

I just wanted to say......

up to 118 images --- many uploaded by individuals with their own login account.

No more limitation / quota for submissions.

I wanted to point out to those who have their collection online, and don't want have to download images to then re-upload them to this museum.... the upload process allows for URL (links). You just put in the link to your file, and the webpage does all of the grabbing and copying and such.

I will email directions to those interested, it is very easy.

Thank you to all of the users that are uploading cool stuff.

If you haven't already, please email me so that I can set you up with your own user ID and password...
that will allow yout to upload your own images (and remove your own images whenever you want) -
as well as rate the images already on the site (from 1 to 5 stars).

First off, the museum is a great idea and even easier to use - well done Joe!

I think it would look great if we could get the complete set of M101-2 listed. I have added a couple and hope others do also. Be nice if they were listed by issue date. The HOF'ers and stars shouldn't be that tough; it is the "commons" that I would think are going to be the challenge. Looking forward to seeing the set grow.

sounds like a great idea.

I will create a "set builder" section and an M101-2 album.

I would ask one thing.... only put in cards that are yours.
I believe the best part of the site is that these items are owned by N54ers (as opposed to just an image library).

If you don't have a user name / password for the musuem yet.... just email me and I will send one to you.

edit to say:
its all done.....
the museum has a 'set builders' section
and the first album there is M101-2

if you already uploaded an M101-2 and want to put it in the setbuilders section, you can click on the image you uploaded and edit its information (the album it belongs to)
