Default 1953 Topps wax wrapper

Why is it so hard to find a '53 wax wrapper? Why are these more elusive than the '52 or '54? Just wondering if anyone had any insight on this.

Thanks Chad

Default 53 wrappers and packs

There were "finds" of 52 and 54 packs, and while expensive, they have been easy to find. I am not aware of any such "finds" for 53. But 53 is easier that 56 and 58. I have had to settle on penny packs for 56 and 58 so far.

Al, was there a find of US '54 packs or just the 5 boxes of Canadian ones that Mastro has/had?

Would you be interested in a trade for this 5 cent wrapper for your '53 1 cent wrapper?

This may be of interest. I acquired it many years ago at a show. It is about the length of 3-4 wrappers and does not have the wax coating. I suspect that it was scrap and somehow got saved. Probably a unique item?

Default Resurrecting an almost five year old thread....

Al, does your 53 dated one cent wrapper have a white border along the right and left sides?? I'm guessing it doesn't because of the wear (ie the notch) in the fold in the blue section along the right edge.

Along those lines, do any wrapper collectors on here who own a 53 dated one cent wrapper have one that has a white border along the right and left sides?? I believe I have only seen one example that has the white border--the one example of a dated version that I own does not have it. However, the undated examples I own and have seen all have the white border. Most of the images of 53 one cent wrappers on the Internet (and in completed auction house sales) are the undated version so for whatever reason the dated version appears to be harder to come by.

I believe the dated versions only were issued early in the season to alert the kids a new series was out. The 53 packs look very much like the 52 high number packs and I can see why Topps used the practice. Can anyone confirm what these dated packs contain? I'd expect only first series cards, although it's merely an educated guess on my part.

Al,

Do you have a complete run of Topps packs too? (to go along with your sets)

My run goes down from the present to my birth year of 1975. I have wrappers to match all of my sets down to 1966.

Al, nice of you to reply to Shane's post/question from today but how about replying to mine from yesterday as I was the one who revived this thread in the first place?!?!

Sorry Boston. Shane's question I could do off the top of my head. I mentioned in another thread I am in route to a 128 cruise aboard the Regent Seven Seas Navigator and will not have access to my collection for awhile to make the examination you requested.

Default Sorry Al!

Thanks for your reply Al and no worries--I didn't see your post in the other thread so I didn't know you were on a cruise. Enjoy, have fun, be safe and I look forward to your reply when you return from traveling the world and the seven seas--happy new year!
