Default Need some Advice regarding EBAY Store

Posted By: Neal

I am contemplating setting up a Basic Ebay store. With all the new changes-pricing taking effect today wondering if I am better off just listing each week or setting up store and at least my inventory can stay in store for 30 days. I have a good amount of inventory to sell.

Your thoughts???

Thanks!

Neal - I thought with the latest changes regular fixed priced listings can be up to 30 days.

The new pricing and the eBay store are two different items. They have lowered the listing fees for fixed price listings to 35 cents for 30 days. The eBay store is 10 cents for 30 days. The fixed price listings will show up with the auctions in searches and the eBay stores will be at the bottom of the page.

This sounds great, but there is a catch. The final selling fees are higher for the fixed price listings than for the store. The straight auctions have the lowest fees. To find out what the difference is, when you are making a listing for a store, check what the total fees will be on the second page before you upload your listing. Then go back and mark the item as a fixed price. This will tell you the difference.

I've found items sell MUCH faster as fixed price vs. store listings. I usually start off listing as fixed price, and after a week put them into my store. When it comes close to 30 days shift them to fixed price for a week, and typically a large % sell.
Having a few items in fixed price listings will also drive some traffic to your store, so they feed off each other.
If nothing else I like having the store so that I can quickly convert them to fixed price on ebay dump days. You typically get less than 48 hours notice of those, and having them ready to go makes it much more likely to take advantage of the listing special.

The cost to try an eBay store is small, so it wouldn't hurt financially to test it out if you desire. Also, if you don't like the store, it is very easy to relist your store inventory to the regular auctions. If the store had an upfront charge of $2,000, then you'd have to wonder. But at $15 per month, it's no great risk.

Having an eBay store helps you manage and organize your ebay account. I think a basic ebay store is really worth it for the $15. I have had my store for at least 3 or 4 years

I had an ebay store opened for a couple of years, but I closed it in 2006. I suppose the fees and stuff have changed since I had one, but here is what I was charged when I had a store..

They used to have 30, 60, or 90 days but I believe its only 30 now. It was a flat $9.99 a month no matter if you listed or sold anything. That was the basic starting fee for having a store. The more features you had the more monthly fees would be. The listing fee was very cheap, but the final value fee was very high. Much higher then if you would do a regular auction. Overall, I had a good experience with having a store, I just ran out of stuff to sell in there and didn't need it any longer. If you have several stuff to sell, you can try it out for a few months and see what happens. Good luck..

David
