Default Just Got Back From SGC!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking I would receive a 50 on this card!

I just sold this card below, same grade!(what do you think now?)

No creases four sharp corners w/ some Ice cream on it (what would you grade it?) I'll post the grade later....

It's best to think of it in terms of a pyramid -- Perfectly Mint cards will all look the same, but the further down the scale you get, the more reasons exist for a card to be a lesser grade. So, it stands to reason that all SGC 40/VG/3's will not look alike. In fact, many will be more pleasing to the eye than others upon first glance or in a scan, especially when an otherwise mint card has a back crease that is not noticeable from the front. Such a card would be graded a VG -- as would a card without any creases, but heavy wear on the corners and staining. Would those two cards look alike? No. But they are both VG 3.

No matter the grade that is a great looking McKechnie! Paul is dead on the grading of VG to EX cards. Many 40/3 look better than their grade, and many look worse. Either way it's a nice card.

My educated guess on the Goodall would be SGC20.

Is it possible to lick the icecream off and get it regraded?

Bill

Well some of the ice cream, but not all would have come out with a pre-soaking in distilled water. I'm guessing it was a SGC 20 due to paper loss.

Also, since you periodically e-mail me, asking if I'd sell any of my Maple Crispettes, I am posting this one here to cause wanton card lust to drive up the price should I need to sell it down the road.

Edited to add: Here's two SGC 40's of mine from that same set with much different eye-appeal as well.

There is no paper loss on the card, it's just a Ice Cream stain.

David,

"pre-soaking in distilled water?" Please explain the full procedure and wouldn't the card be consider altered? and no I'm not think of doing it!

I've been impressed with Brad's persistence in hunting these down. He picked a great set to collect. Here's one of my favorites:

Some consider it alteration. I don't and most people don't (including PSA and SGC), but there's at least one thread on it somewhere here. The key is to properly dry and press it afterwards.
