Default The Leon Luckey Type Card Collection – Bidding Ends on Thursday - August 13, 2015

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that bidding for the Leon Luckey Type Card Collection ends in just two days! Open bidding closes at 10:00 pm central time on Thursday - August 13, 2015. There is an incredible selection of items you may not see again for a long time. There are so many unique pieces with something for everyone. The 620 lot auction offers cards, postcards, packaging, wrappers, signs, company correspondence, proofs, premiums, photos and more. Hopefully there is something for everyone!

We had a record number of catalog requests. When the dust settled as they say, Heritage received over 100 email requests for catalogs which included almost a dozen new bidders to our auctions. Plus we handed I don’t even know how many more catalogs at the National Convention in Chicago.

As I mentioned, open bidding ends at 10:00 pm central time on Thursday - August 13, 2015. You do have to have placed a bid on a lot before this time in order to bid in the extended session. Each lot ends on our 30-minute clock rule which means starting at 10:00 pm if a lot goes for 30 minutes without a bid that lot will close. You can view the lots here:

http://sports.ha.com/c/search-result...=SortBy-071515

If you have any questions please ask now. The night of the auction gets busy and with the East Coast National going on we might be a little short staffed.

Thank you to everyone who asked for a catalog and good luck to all!

Peter Calderon

Just went back through the auction and saw a lot of what I initially wanted is already over my budget. There are still a few items I'm planning to take a stab at, but I'm not expecting good outcomes.

There are still many lots that probably have some meat left on the bone. Thanks for the well wishes and thanks to Heritage and Peter C for helping with the collection. Its been interesting watching the bids and I am sure tonight will be no different. I hope everyone gets something they want.

Johnny- Matty proof and Mullaney seem to be doing fine.

My bids are in and they are safe FOR NOW...
will be a late night for sure, unless I just bid it up and let it ride...
The suspense is killing me!

Suspense? Nah, just going "all in" with no reserve on a ton of things with no price history. No big deal...

I suppose it is improper Leon for you to offer tips on a few things that seem to be "bargains" right now? I know it might seem to some that you are trying to bid them up but since I am the one asking surely you could not be accused of doing that...As you say it is hard to judge with little or no value trail on so many of them........

I have said this to many friends, I will tell anyone and everyone anything they want to know pertaining to my collection. I want them to bid with the most information they can have.
Obviously I have a very vested interest but I also know more about these particular cards than most do. I have already answered plenty of questions privately. Some things I paid a ton for will go for very little and things I have virtually nothing into will go for a lot. Some things are already way higher than I expected, others not so much.

And there are a ton of things that are too rare for their own good. The market dictates the pricing. But otherwise, I am skipping my 2 softball games tonight (which are very important to me) to be around to watch *(and answer any questions I can)....

And lastly, as I told another friend and board member today, don't forget about Heritage's extended payment options. That seemed to help his dilemma of getting shut out and not being able to circle back, with the single lot by lot closing style. Anyone can PM, email or call me if they have special circumstances too. Heritage has given me a bit of leeway on a case by case basis, in length of payment terms for my collection, to help collectors be able to bid more. But if no arrangements are made otherwise, of course their regular rules apply. See their website for details.

Leon -- Wishing the auction of your collection the very best of success and fulfillment. I'm sure you put a great deal of time, effort, and enjoyment into building your array of Type cards. For so many of them, it may be said, "you don't come across this one very often." ---Brian Powell

about 3 weeks ago I made note of 24 lots I thought I might have a snowball's chance on....... I just reviewed all of them and placed a bid on the only one of them my budget can still justify. In the lead for now!

Good Luck Leon, I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster you must be on!

It's just so easy to click & bid on the lots. And if you're worrying about paying for the lot and/or lots, just say to yourself, "Sometimes you gotta say, WTF"

Good luck Leon.

Peter know you haven't had a lot of time to correct since it was brought to your companies attention back in May. But as pointed out by myself and the owner of the other example. This isn't the only recorded or known example of this card as your description states. Once again FYI......

I pointed something out to Heritage in this auction as well and they had me send scans but never corrected the description or reached out to me again. Money trumps all.

The "unique" back of lot 79402. I have one just like it.

On July 16 - they responded but nothing was done to change the description and no further correspondence.

"Dear Mr. Miller,

Thank you for the image. I have provided this information to our consignment director as well as our cataloger of this item.

Kind regards,

Thanks Jason. I personally didn't keep up with each of the 3-4 different backs of those particular cards. Mike P. is the one I go to for those questions. I appreciate the good scan too. If someone wins this, and based their decision on that info and now doesn't want it, I won't force the sale. It's that easy. thanks again....

ps...I should add, I have to run everything by Heritage but we have always seen eye to eye in these areas.

Yeah, my point is that Heritage had the opportunity back when this card was $1000 cheaper to correct the description and they didn't. The idea that you will negate the sale after the fact, whatever. I go out of my way to send the scans and am communicated with that they are forwarding to the catalogue and director of the auction and nothing is done.

So, I guess I just sell my "unique" back in a couple of years with a similar description. If I do it with Heritage they won't ask any questions and will ignore the person who ends up buying your card.

Time is a flat circle.

Leon, you're welcome.

As an FYI I notified Derek on May 14th. McKee also told Peter and the team quite sometime ago. Their response to him was along the lines of because his wasn't graded they couldn't count his card. Even more odd this card along with Dan's near set and can be seen in an article written by Dan that was featured in an issue of Old Cardboard.

Dan since then had the card graded....seems that still wasn't enough. Great card either way. Just hate to see somebody buy what they think is the only one when there is clearly another well known example.

Cheers,

John

Wow, it sure is. I assume that you aren't bidding on it Jeff.

Neither am I, though I have some other cards that are just about out of range for me.

Leon,

Best of luck with the sale of your collection!!

Out of curiosity, did it feel strange when you had to let all of your cards go?? I know you had some of them quite a long time.

I'm sure one day I'll be selling mine.

Tony

I have been in a daze for a month...ask me in another month. Actually, since I am still avidly collecting it hasn't been bad. I will never assemble this one again but there will be another, God willing.

Well, I won 2 small lots - not the 2 that I was hoping to win but I am very happy! One more that I am watching - not sure if I will pull the trigger on another bid or 2. Maybe I need another glass of wine!

I only won one lot (finished the E98 master set with the orange Walsh) but I was bidding on many, so Leon I at least helped your daughter's fund a little 😊
Congratulations on what appears to be a very successful auction and congrats also to Pete C. who did yeoman's work.

I was happy to win the lot I did! Only needed one card from the lot but pleased with the outcome. Was outbid on the only only two lots I had bid on (well one is still going)

I only won one lot also. I have been trying to get it out of his hands for several years and now I have. Good luck to your daughter in her future.

Well, I was the underbidder on a couple of lots, so I got to push some money in Leon's direction, but I'm out.

That was a short, but bloody, skirmish. I came away with the D381 Ferguson Burns and the 2 T217's. They were 'bargains', sorta. Glad to have them, in any case. Got pummeled on 25 other lots.

Let's do it again, Leon.

Congrats on the Ferguson Burns Bill. Glad you snagged one! Unfortunately my $750 bid for the Wagner D381 didn't hold up .... I was prepared to go significantly more than that but it escalated pretty quickly and I stayed on the sidelines.

Picked up the Mino/Kotton and the Contentnea packs. I gave the GQ a ride until the bitter end, but ended up bailing out at $3750 (without the juice).

Jon, couldn't have found a better home for those. Congrat's!
