Default PSA vs SGC Poll

I have used both PSA & SGC for grading my cards and I really don't have a preference. If you wanted to have your card graded so that you could sell it, which grading company do you think would bring you the highest return on your card?

Howard - there is no answer to the question as you've phrased it - currently each of the 3 options brings top dollar for different types of cards. If you ask about a specific card or a specific issue, you'll get a more meaningful response.

Default My take

SGC - for pre-war (41s playball and back)
PSA - vintage (50s, 60s, to 75)
BGS - modern (76s to date)

Seems to be best for return, but as many has said in threads past.

Buy the cards not the holder.

Ive found over/under graded in all

but they all do a fine job.

Edit: per request of definitions

I don't know anything about Pre-War, but PSA by far in vintage and Beckett for Modern cards.

John,

What are your definitions of "pre-war", "vintage", and "modern"?

In my mind, there could be quite a bit of overlap between pre-war and vintage.

BTW, somewhat off topic, and I know Howard wasn't looking for this, but I've purchased many cards from him on eBay, and definitely a really good seller. Really fast shipping, and when I asked to return a card for a defect that was in the scan which I missed, he was very courteous and let me return the card, refunding my payment.

I voted for PSA because the question was so general. Anything after 1933 to the present, it's PSA all the way. From 1887-1919 it's SGC.

I am surprised that PSA is leading the count on this poll.

For postwar, I use PSA.

For prewar, I use primarilly use SGC. But for more mainstream prewar cards like T205, T206, T207, and Goudey I would go with PSA.

Default PSA vs SGC Poll

PSA right now would, but SGC is not that behind at least with prewar, I do business with both!

There are some big-time collectors who prefer PSA. Just look at their PSA registry sets. More of the big money goes into PSA, at least for material after 1900. If you are talking about hi-grade pre-war sets, PSA is a good choice for your investment.

I'm PSA all-the-way. I've had nothing but great customer service from PSA. They always answer my emails within a day or 2. I don't like SGC's holders, I think they show scratches too easily.

I voted PSA because I think I know the market. However, I prefer SGC because I trust them more and I believe they do a better job. Overall, I think PSA graded cards get a small premium unless it's a really tough card.

PSA For everything except offshoot prewar and caramel cards i would go with SGC for them. Definetly everything mainstream I would go with PSA. Modern or sheetcut BGS.

PSA for registry stuff, SGC for older, rare issues. Don't know much about post-1980 cards.
