Default S-74 silks: Educate me, please

What went on here? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...253D&viewitem=

It wasn't a snipe; the Street colored silk stayed at the final price of $338 for a few days. Is Street that tough? Is this a tough color? A few colored HOFers have gone off in the last few days for less money.

Thanks,

Bill

Default not that I am aware of

I am not aware of that silk being anymore difficult than others. I don't collect the set so there could be some anomaly short print? For some reason the under bidder has 18 bid retractions in the last 6 months. I have been on ebay for around 11 yrs and think I might have 1 in that whole time. I truly think ebay is being over run with fraud. Even if this instance isn't fraud, ebay is being a playground for fraudsters imo. I just don't like things I see going on, on a daily basis. regards

There have been a couple curious results on S74s on ebay recently. Some colored silks are double printed, but I'm not aware of any that are significantly rarer than any others. Gold is an attractive, though not especially difficult color. The toughest colors are probably purple, deep red, and copper. I know that there are a few collectors who avidly pursue this set. I can only guess that two of them needed this subject for their sets.

It may have something to do with the Turkey Red brand and not Old Mill.

Default Crandall

A Crandall sold a few days earlier for exactly the same price, which seemed kind of curious, but I guess if the same 2 bidders were going after it, it could happen.

Thanks, guys. Maybe I won't have to pony up HOFer money after all to fill this hole.

ed's (hey ed) assessment is correct, the street price is nuts. i can't imagine two collectors are that close to a master set, which would be next to impossible in s74-2s.

i do like the crandall. that pearl white is a tougher color. i haven't seen many.....i had a pearl walter johnson.....beautiful card....
